Social mindfulness refers to the tendency of individuals to pay attention to,respect and protect the choice needs and rights of others in interpersonal communication. In real life,it can not only promote the smooth progress of interpersonal communication, but also help individuals better adapt to the society, thereby promoting the harmonious development of society.Social mindfulness is one of the newly proposed concepts in the prosocial field. It has been regarded as a low-cost prosocial tendency since its inception.Related studies have also found that social mindfulness and prosociality have similar neurophysiological foundations.Self-control,as an individual’s conscious process of regulating one’s own cognition, emotion, and behavior,is regarded as one of the key factors affecting prosocial expression, but its impact on social mindfulness has not yet been clarified. Both social mindfulness and self-control are conceptually complex to a certain extent. They are not only a state behavioral tendency, but also can be regarded as a relatively stable personality trait. Therefore,in order to examine the relationship between the two more comprehensively, the article adopts the methods of questionnaire survey and experiment respectively, from the perspective of trait and state,to explore the influence of self-control on social mindfulness,so as to find a method to improve the level of college students’ social mindfulness.Study 1 used the Self-Control Scale for College Students and the Self-Reporting Scale for Trait Social Mindfulness to conduct a questionnaire survey on 17,120 students from two universities in Shanxi Province,to investigate the development level of college students’ self-control and social mindfulness at the trait level and the relationship between the two.Preliminary research. In Study 2,based on the limited resources model of self-control,two experiments were designed to explore how the individual’s self-control resources affect social mindfulness at the state level.Experiment 1: The influence of the degree of self-depletion on the state social mindfulness. It mainly examines the influence of different degrees of self-control resource depletion on state social mindfulness, using a single-factor between-subject design, taking the degree of self depletion(high depletion/low depletion/no depletion)as the independent variable, and the dependent variable as state social mindfulness.Thought level;Experiment 2:The influence of the type of self-depletion on the state social mindfulness. The influence of different self-control resource depletion types on state social goodness was investigated.A 2(gender: male/female)× 3(depletion type: thinking control/emotional inhibition/attention control)mixed experimental design was adopted, and the independent variables were gender,Self-depletion type, the dependent variable is state social mindfulness.Research result:(1)There is a significant positive correlation between college students’ trait self-control and trait social mindfulness, and trait self-control can positively predict the level of college students’ trait social mindfulness.(2)The main effect of self-depletion degree on status social mindfulness is significant.Compared with the no-loss state, the depletion of individual self-control resources will weaken the level of state social mindfulness, and the higher the degree of self-depletion,the greater the impact on the state social mindfulness.(3)The interaction between self-depletion type and gender is significant.Men’s state social goodness is more affected by cognitive depletion, and women’s state social mindfulness is more affected by emotional depletion.
