Establishment And Development Of Guo Guangcan Laboratory

University Scientific Research Laboratory is an important part of University,and also an important place for national scientific research and education.In 1983,Guo Guangcan founded the Quantum Optics Research Group in University of Science and Technology of China(USTC),which is the first institution engaged in Quantum Optics research in China.On this basis,Key Laboratory of Quantum Information,CAS,headed by Guo Guangcan,was established in USTC from 1999 to 2001,becoming the first laboratory engaged in Quantum Information research in China.Since the establishment of Quantum Optics Research Group in 1983,the laboratory team led by Guo Guangcan has overcome various difficulties and become one of the leading teams of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information research in China,making many contributions to the development of the two research areas in China.From a research group with only one researcher to a key laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)with hundreds of staff,Guo Guangcan Laboratory has not only produced results frequently,but also cultivated a large number of outstanding local talents.This paper mainly explores and studies the growth path of the laboratory by means of file searching,literature sorting and interviews,and analyzes the successful path of the laboratory.This paper mainly expounds and analyzes the establishment and development process of the laboratory from four aspects:One is Guo Guangcan and Quantum Optics,Quantum Information research.The author first introduces Guo Guangcan and his early experience.Then the establishment and development process of Quantum Optics Research Group are summarized.And the author discusses how the discipline of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information started in China and how it was popularized in China,and what important work Guo Guangcan did in it.Finally,the author analyzes the reasons and effects of Guo Guangcan’s work.The second is the establishment of Key Laboratory of Quantum Information,CAS.The author discusses the reasons and chances for the establishment of the laboratory,the preparation process of the laboratory,the leadership and support of CAS and USTC,and the changes of the laboratory’s location.Third,the scientific research development and achievements of Guo Guangcan Laboratory.The achievements of the laboratory in scientific research mainly include three aspects:reasonable layout of research direction and construction of research platform,application and implementation of numerous scientific research projects,and output of excellent scientific research results.The author expounds these three aspects respectively,showing the scientific research style and trends,academic value and response of the laboratory.At the same time,it roughly reflects the changes of national science and technology policies and the development of international Quantum Information science.Fourth,the system and culture of Guo Guangcan laboratory.The author introduces the talent team,internal system and culture of the laboratory,analyses that what role does the system and culture in the scientific research development and talent training.At the same time,through the analyzing of Guo Guangcan’ education and management idea and way of teaching and training in the laboratory,the author explains the causes of the formation of the system and culture within the laboratory.This paper argues that the main reasons why the laboratory has occupied high ground in the international and domestic competition,and output talents and achievements continuously are as follows:First,Guo Guangcan,as the director of the laboratory and the leader of the academic team,has been leading the laboratory correctly.Second,Guo Guangcan and other academic leaders in the laboratory have chosen the right direction of scientific research.Third,researchers in the laboratory have first-rate research ability,attitude and methods.Fourthly,the laboratory has formed Scientific Research Group System,a continuous academic system and a harmonious team cultural atmosphere,which is suitable for its own development.Fifth,the national science and technology policies has given attention and support to Quantum Information discipline.Sixth,CAS and USTC have given long-term support to the laboratory.Seventh,the staff outside the laboratory,including the leading departments and scientific research management departments in CAS and USTC,as well as some scientific research workers in the field of physics at home and abroad,provided assistance to the laboratory.
