| Poverty has always been a common problem facing people all over the world. On the road to winning the battle against poverty, tackling deep poverty caused by disease is relatively complex and difficult. To deal with the problem of poverty caused by illness, people can seek help through serious illness medical insurance, civil assistance at the government level, commercial medical insurance and charity organizations at the social level.Sometimes, due to the double failure of the government market, people can also seek help through the emerging informal mutual assistance such as medical crowdfunding. The emergence of medical crowdfunding has alleviated the poverty caused by illness in some families to a certain extent. However, because the fact that people have little social capital and cannot effectively use their social capital, the fundraising effect of current medical crowdfunding projects in China is not ideal. In addition, people’s donation motivation is also an important factor affecting the effect of medical crowdfunding. This paper studies the influence of regional social capital and other factors on medical crowdfunding from the perspective of reciprocity motivation, which is of great significance to better promote medical crowdfunding platforms and encourage more people to participate in the third allocation. This paper collects more than 100,000 pieces of data on crowdfunding for serious diseases on a donation-type crowdfunding platform, constructs the regional social capital index by the principal component analysis method, and then constructs the Logit model of successful fundraising, and the OLS model of the fundraising amount and the completion rate of the fundraising goal to explore the influence of the regional social capital index, the number of forwards of each crowdfunding and other factors on the effect of crowdfunding;in the robustness test, the influence of event impact, familiarity test, tool variable method and other methods are used.In order to investigate the motivation that affects people’s participation in medical crowdfunding, the level of poverty in an area is also explored to explore whether the effect of medical crowdfunding is also explored. The study found that:(1)Fundraisers from areas with higher social capital had better results in initiating medical crowdfunding projects when other conditions remained unchanged.(2)When the fundraiser has insurance, the fundraising effect is not good;the identity of the fundraiser is that of students and cancer patients;the fundraising effect is better if the description of the crowdfunding project is more words, and the effect of the text description is not good when it is automatically generated by the software.(3)Contrary to intuition, the higher the poverty rate, the smaller the amount raised, and the lower the probability of successful fundraising. The number of forwards has a positive impact on medical crowdfunding projects, which to a certain extent shows that social network effects have a positive impact on the crowdfunding effect, confirming the conclusion that reciprocity is the main donation motivation in medical crowdfunding. The main innovations in this paper are(1)research problem innovation.Different from previous research on entrepreneurship and cultural crowdfunding, this paper focuses on medical crowdfunding projects, which not only provides a valuable perspective for the research of donation-based crowdfunding but also fits into the policy of encouraging people to participate in the third distribution and participate in charitable and public welfare undertakings.(2)Measure the index innovation of the regional social capital index, measured from the two aspects of reciprocity and trust.(3)Previous studies have believed that altruism is the main motivation for donation, and this analysis finds that reciprocity is the main donation motivation for people to carry out medical crowdfunding. |
