Abstract/Summary:
As an information platform and employment carrier, the Internet has a profound impact on rural women’s employment concept and employment willingness.Through the Internet as an information platform, rural women can obtain employment information, learn knowledge, exercise vocational skills, and accumulate human capital just like urban women. At the same time, the spirit of gender equality contained in the Internet can break the confinement of time and space, transmit the concept of modern gender roles to rural areas, awaken the independent consciousness of rural women, and encourage more rural women to yearn and participate in social labor, realize personal value, and gain a sense of self-fulfillment..In view of this,it is of practical significance to explore what effect the use of the Internet has on the employment quality of rural women, how gender role attitudes affect rural women’s employment willingness, and to construct an integrated framework to analyze rural women’s employment issues from two dimensions. The paper combs relevant domestic and foreign literatures, builds a theoretical model framework based on search matching theory, labor supply theory and social gender theory, adopts the unbalanced panel data of China General Social Survey(CGSS)four phases, and uses multiple regression model to analyze Internet usage. The influence mechanism of frequency and information channel function on rural women’s employment and the moderating effect of gender roles between them. The study found that:(1)The higher the frequency of Internet use and the stronger the channel function, the greater the probability of rural women engaging in non-agricultural employment;the stronger the information channel function of the Internet, the higher the labor income level and occupational rights of rural women.(2)The concept of gender roles has an inhibitory effect on rural women’s employment willingness;the more traditional the concept of gender roles, the lower the employment participation rate of rural women.(3)Gender role attitudes have a negative moderating effect on the relationship between Internet use and rural women’s employment participation rate;compared with the rural female group who uphold traditional gender role attitudes, rural women with modern gender role attitudes have a higher rate of Internet use than rural women with modern gender role attitudes. The effect of rural female employment participation rate is stronger.Based on the empirical analysis, the paper puts forward relevant policy suggestions: strengthen the construction of network infrastructure, standardize the Internet information platform, and provide necessary employment guidance for rural women;change the gender role concept of rural women, and increase the employment participation rate of rural women.
