With the reform of China’s basic education and the attention to the individual development of students,primary school mathematical modeling is increasingly concerned by educators.The International Mathematics Education Conference has been involved in mathematical modeling for many times.Mathematical modeling ability will be one of the essential skills of students.How to cultivate students’ mathematical modeling ability in daily teaching will be an important topic in the whole field of mathematics education.Sixth grade students have good knowledge reserve and preliminary mathematical modeling ability.The unit "Circle" is the key and difficult point in the sixth grade mathematics textbook,While arranging the basic knowledge,it permeates the idea of modeling.Therefore,I chose the unit of "Circle" for research.This study took the students of class 5 and class 6 of grade 6 of W primary school in L City and all mathematics teachers in Grade 6 as the survey object.Through the student test,we can understand the current level of students’ mathematical modeling ability.Through the interview with all mathematics teachers in Grade 6,we can understand the teachers’ understanding of mathematical modeling and the current situation of the cultivation of mathematical modeling ability of "Circle" unit.The survey found that the overall level of students’ mathematical modeling ability was low,which was in the transition stage from level zero to level one and level two.Teachers lack the understanding of mathematical modeling,and their teaching ability of mathematical modeling in "Circle" unit was weak.This paper analyzed the causes of the problems found in the survey,and gave the teaching strategies for the cultivation of mathematical modeling ability in the "Circle" unit:teachers should clarify the connotation of mathematical modeling,grasp the requirements for mathematical modeling in the curriculum standard,analyze the content of mathematical model in teaching materials,accumulate mathematical modeling teaching experience,pay attention to the cultivation of students’ modeling ability in the "Circle" unit,and use a variety of auxiliary means to establish mathematical models.The teaching design and teaching experiment of "Circle" unit were carried out.The control class was taught according to the original teaching plan,and the experimental class was taught with the strategy of cultivating mathematical modeling ability.After the experiment,the post test papers were distributed in two classes.The study found that after teaching,the number of students at level zero in the experimental class was significantly lower than that in the control class,and the number of students at level one,level two and level three were higher than that in the control class.Therefore,the "Circle" unit mathematical modeling ability training strategy given in this study can improve students’ mathematical modeling ability.
