Happiness is the common pursuit of everyone and every country, and research on happiness has long-term significance for improving national happiness and living standards. However, based on the results of the World Happiness Report under the framework of foreign happiness research,China appears to be unhappy. Therefore, this paper explores whether the ranking method of happiness given by the World Happiness Report is reasonable, identifies the differences between domestic and foreign happiness research, attempts to construct the subjective happiness index of Chinese residents, and explores whether China is happy at this stage.Based on the CGSS data of the China Comprehensive Social Survey, the first part starts from the macro-level national happiness, uses the entropy method to objectively weight the indicators of the World Happiness Report, and re-ranks the national happiness score in 2021 to evaluate whether China is happy. The second part starts from the microindividual happiness, and studies the main aspects of the differences in factors affecting happiness at home and abroad: the individual aspect and the collective aspect. The third part eliminates variables through exploratory factor analysis, constructs a structural equation model of China’s subjective well-being index, and applies it to different provinces to test the effect of cross-cultural application. The results of the study found:(1)Corruption has the greatest impact on national happiness, and the freedom of life choices that are very important to Europe and the United States has the least weight.According to the happiness ranking calculated by weight,it is found that the ranking of Asian and African countries has risen sharply, and the ranking of European and American countries has dropped sharply.China’s happiness ranking has risen from the world’s middle level to the world’s middle and upper level, and China is happy.(2)Individual selfconfidence, optimism, and hope have no significant impact on the happiness of Chinese people, while collective social problems, family and social relations have a significant impact on Chinese people. There are consistent factors affecting happiness at home and abroad, such as married people are happier than unmarried people, and ensuring leisure time is an effective means to improve residents’ happiness.(3)Exploratory factor analysis retained 21 variables and extracted five principal components: health, comparison, life meaning, satisfaction and growth.Among them, health and comparison have the greatest impact on China’s subjective well-being index.Through the structural equation model, the score of China’s subjective well-being index in the current year was 60.26 points. The Beijing,Shanghai, and Shandong models have better application effects, while those in Sichuan and Heilongjiang are worse. The re-modeling of the samples from Sichuan Province found that the cross-province and city-level application of the model needs to consider the local cultural framework.Chinese happiness is ”qualified” no matter from the perspective of micro-individual happiness or macro-level national happiness. Therefore, the author believes that there are cultural differences in happiness research at home and abroad, and we need to identify their differences before doing research.Whether it is the conclusion of the World Happiness Report or some other evaluations and suggestions on China,we need to think about what is wrong or right based on the local cultural framework, and take the essence and discard the dross.
