The new curriculum standard requires students to make clear the internal relationship between social reality and chemistry.Through in-depth thinking and continuous understanding,students’ sense of social responsibility is enhanced,and they have a stronger awareness of actively participating in social affairs.At the same time,students have a stronger spirit of innovation and practical ability to provide guarantee for students’ personalized development and all-round development.STSE education concept meets the needs of contemporary education and the trend of future education,but the promotion and application of STSE in various schools across the country are uneven.In order to deeply understand the application of STSE education concept in high school chemistry teaching activities in Northwest Guangdong,Guangdong Province,China,a questionnaire was specially designed and distributed to the majority of high school students in Yunfu.The contents of the questionnaire include the evaluation of STSE,the understanding and attention to STSE education,the integration of STSE and teaching materials,the integration of STSE and teaching methods,and the basic conditions of STSE applied chemistry teaching;The content of the interview with teachers mainly includes six aspects: Teachers’ understanding of STSE concept,application in actual teaching,mining of STSE knowledge in materials,research on STSE content in curriculum standards,students’ performance in STSE teaching process,and STSE education in college entrance examination.Through the analysis of the survey results,it is found that there are two problems in the application of STSE education concept in Yunfu middle school chemistry education: first,the school does not pay enough attention to the application of STSE teaching.There are no basic teaching conditions for STSE application,nor rich chemical newspapers and magazines.In addition,the school is not active in maintaining the instruments in the chemical laboratory.After the experimental instruments are damaged or malfunctioned,there will be no experimental classes for a long time,and the school will not repair and update them in time.There is no place in or near the school where chemical practice can be carried out,so it is very difficult to realize the living of chemistry.Second,at the teacher level,teachers’ understanding of STSE education concept is not enough,high school chemistry teachers lack STSE teaching awareness,and STSE education content in chemistry textbooks is not fully utilized.In view of the above problems,this paper suggests that the school should actively carry out extracurricular expansion activities of chemical life,provide necessary sites and facilities for the activities,and give play to the guiding role of the school.Teachers constantly improve their understanding of STSE and related teaching skills,actively realize the life-oriented teaching of chemistry,make full use of multimedia and information technology to mine STSE information,provide students with diversified STSE experience channels,fully tap the STSE content in textbooks,and combine STSE with problem-solving to provide students with more ideas for problem-solving.
