In contrast to production society,consumer society is the study and evaluation of contemporary society from the perspective of consumption.Since the 1980 s,China’s economy has grown rapidly,material standards have risen significantly,and the country has shifted from a production-based society to a consumption-based society.The wide range of commodities has led to an increasing diversity of consumption contents,and the development of the national economy has gradually set off a national consumption boom.Body consumption is a form of consumption that has been around since ancient times,but in the consumer society,the body has moved from the periphery to the center.Especially the concern of female group for body makes body consumption a hot spot of research that cannot be ignored in the consumer society,and female college students,who are subordinate to the female group,play an important role in the structure of body consumption with their passion and demand for consumption despite their limited consumption ability.The current research on female college students’ body consumption basically adopts a sociological point of view,that is,it analyzes the current situation of female college students’ body consumption and the construction of meaning behind their consumption behaviors from a singularity perspective.Such studies mostly provide descriptive statistics on female college students’ body consumption behaviors from a microscopic perspective and analyze female college students’ body consumption behaviors from a critical perspective,while neglecting the existence of female college students’ subjectivity.In order to overcome the shortcomings of the above studies,this study conducts a research on female college students’ body consumption behavior from the dual perspectives of identity and disorientation.The study takes female college students as the research object,which helps society pay attention to the consumption pattern of this special group of female college students,explore the fundamental motives and problems of female college students’ body consumption,and help female college students,who are the intellectual elites in society,build a correct aesthetic and consumption view,and it is important to have correct values for the development of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.This study examines the current situation of female college students’ body consumption and the phenomenon of identity and disorientation reflected by consumption from the perspectives of communication,sociology of consumption,sociology of body and identity theory,and deeply explores the subjectivity of female college students.The study adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods,and takes female college students of University of H as the research object.A questionnaire survey is conducted among341 female college students to outline the group portrait of female college students’ body consumption,and in-depth interviews are conducted with 30 female college students to deeply explore the phenomenon of identity and disorientation in the current situation of female college students’ body consumption.The study found that female college students are influenced by popular culture and consumerism,and present different characteristics in terms of identity and disorientation.In terms of identity,female college students construct themselves from multiple perspectives,and the purpose of body consumption is to obtain social identity,identity and self-identity,and the process of identity is influenced by the image of women,the role of students and the subjectivity of the self.In terms of disorientation,female college students have the phenomenon of value deviation,behavioral disorientation and self disorientation,which are specifically manifested in irrational consumption behavior and lack of subjectivity.However,in the face of the false needs created by the mass media,more and more female college students dare to refuse and are no longer restricted by the control of power,and they have realized self-awakening and the liberation of their bodies.
