Audience awareness plays a very important role in senior high school English writing teaching.It is not only a key factor to measure students’ writing quality,but also an important indicator to measure the effect of writing teaching.However,the teaching effect of English writing in senior high school is unsatisfactory because students misunderstand writing purpose.Students take the attitude that the purpose of writing is to test and to satisfy the teachers,ignoring the essence of writing as a media of expression and communication.In the process of teaching and learning,teachers’ teaching concepts and teaching behaviors have an important impact on students’ learning,which will also be reflected in the teaching of writing.Teachers’ own concept of audience awareness and teaching practice based on this concept will have a subtle impact on students in English writing teaching.This paper analyzes the teaching plan of some high school English teachers,and conducts research by combining interviews and questionnaires.This paper focuses on the following two questions.1 Teachers’ views on the application of audience awareness in English writing ? 2 What is the current situation of cultivating students’ audience awareness in senior high school English writing teaching? Based on the analysis of eight teachers’ teaching plans,eight teachers interviews and 302 students’ questionnaire results by software SPSS22.0,major findings are listed below.Firstly,teachers have audience awareness,but they do not understand the concept deeply.Most teachers recognize the necessity of audiences’ awareness,but most of them still focus on the accumulation of writing materials and the training of writing skills in the various stages of writing teaching,ignoring the importance of audiences in this process.Teachers are likely to default as target audience.Secondly,on the current situation of the application of audience awareness in writing teaching,the teacher had not realized the importance and effectiveness of using audience awareness in English writing teaching.On the preparation stage of writing teaching,teachers have an analysis of the needs of audiences,but in writing teaching,there is no detailed analysis of the background of the target audiences,and students still consider that teachers are the target audiences of writing.On the post-writing stage,most teachers apply the audience’ s awareness to teaching.They modify the teaching content,words and sentence structure according to the target audiences’ reading reaction and background.However,the application of audience awareness is relatively weak in modifying discourse coherence.This study helps teachers’ and students’ understanding and attention to audience awareness,to encourage teachers pay attention to cultivating students’ audience awareness in writing teaching,to improve the quality of English writing teaching,to improve students’ English writing level.
