With the implementation and promotion of the curriculum reform and the high school entrance examination reform,the goal of the English teaching in junior middle school is getting better and better,which is highlighting discourse,paying attention to communication and cultivating the ability to use the English language.As an embodiment of the comprehensive quality,the cultural awareness is indispensable in the English high school entrance examination.This thesis applies the case teaching method to cultivate the students’ cultural awareness,so as to improve the students’ reading performance.Whether in the teaching process or in the daily practice,the teachers and students generally feel difficult,especially in the aspect of students’ cultural awareness.In addition,the teachers still use the traditional grammar teaching mode,which is a direct translation of the full text.As a result,the teachers ignore the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness and their ability to use the English language.This study tries to apply the case teaching method to the teaching of cultivating cultural awareness.It analyzes its effectiveness through the combination of the theory and the practice,and summarizes the problems encountered by the junior middle school students in the classroom,their causes and solutions;at the same time,it provides the data and the effective teaching suggestions for the teachers’ teaching in the future.Therefore,this study can not only help the teachers better carry out the teaching tasks,but also help the students calmly deal with the problems and enhance the students’ English cultural awareness and develop the students’ ability to use the English language.This thesis mainly adopts the research method of combining the theoretical analysis and the experimental verification.Firstly,it expounds the purpose and practical significance of this empirical survey.Secondly,it reviews the relevant researches on the theory of the case teaching method and the cultural awareness teaching at home and abroad.This study focuses on the three questions:(1)What changes have taken place in the students’ understanding of the cultural knowledge after the practice of the case teaching method in the junior middle school English teaching?(2)What changes have taken place in the students’ English cultural awareness after the practice of the case teaching method in the junior middle school English teaching? On this basis,the author uses the experimental verification and interviews to investigate the English teachers and students in a junior middle school in Tongliao.Meanwhile,the author carries out a one-semester research in the school,leading the subjects to train for the high school entrance examination.Based on the statistics collected from the practice,the author analyzes the results of the data.The results show that after the application of the case teaching method,the students’ cultural awareness,the ability of problem-solving and the performances have been significantly improved.In this study,the teacher changed from the knowledge imparter to the guide of knowledge application when applying the case teaching method.The students participate actively and become the main subjects of the teaching;in the environment of the case creation,the students and teachers participate in the process of the case teaching,and the cooperation of these elements plays a great part in the case teaching.It is beneficial to the cultivation of the cultural awareness of the junior middle school students.The subjects can transform the experience accumulated subconsciously into the systematic theoretical knowledge,and gradually improve their independent reading ability by combining the systematic theory with the experience.
