The revitalization of the country requires education first;the foundation of education is teachers-oriented.As the leader of educational activities,teachers play as the backbone of the reserve of social talents.And promoting teachers’ professional development is of great significance to improving the quality of education and teaching.Teachers’ professional Knowledge usually includes Content Knowledge,Pedagogical Knowledge,Curriculum Knowledge and Pedagogical Content Knowledge(PCK).Among them,PCK represents the teachers’ unique field of knowledge understanding,and plays a decisive role in instructional quality and students’ learning gains.Therefore,to understand and improve the level of teacher’s PCK is the key factor to promote the professional development of subject teachers.In order to better explore and improve the PCK level of high school biology teachers,this study firstly sorts out the research progress of PCK at home and abroad through literature research,forms a localized definition,and establishes "Course Content Knowledge"(CCK),"Student Understand Knowledge(SUK)" and "Teaching Strategy Knowledge(TSK)" three PCK dimensions.A “cell proliferation” theme PCK test tool with good reliability(α=0.626)is developed from three indexes of "declarative knowledge","procedural knowledge" and "conditional knowledge".Then,using the constructed PCK test,97 high school biology teachers were tested online to evaluate the PCK level of high school biology teachers.Combined with students’ mitosis test scores,this paper comprehensively analyzes the relationship between teacher PCK and student achievement.Finally,based on the current situation of teacher PCK,it summarizes the promotion strategies of biology teacher PCK.The specific research results are as follows:1)"cell proliferation" theme PCK test results show that teachers perform the weakest in CCK,suggesting that teachers pay insufficient attention to curriculum standards,have confused understanding of concepts,ignore teaching strategies,and have unclear teaching objectives.And there is a lack of innovative and flexible alternative representation strategies in SUK and TSK.Besides,there are significant differences in teacher’s PCK level among different teaching ages,professional categories and teaching schools,indicating that these factors affect the development of teacher’s PCK.2)A preliminary study on the impact of teacher PCK on student achievement finds that the differences in student achievement is closely related to teacher’s PCK,and this relationship is dominated by the SUK dimension in PCK.In addition,the teacher’s CCK level has a decisive influence on the achievement of medium students.3)Integrating the research results,it is recommended that high school biology teachers continue to improve their PCK from the following aspects: consolidate subject knowledge;Formulate career plans;Accumulate teaching experience;Focus on teaching and learning.This study provides an example for the exploration and improvement of PCK level of biology teachers,and it is expected to provide help to promote the professional development of biology teachers.
