| The existing theories and Research on cross-cultural adaptation are mainly based on the offline environmental changes of leaving home and being strange and lonely. The popularity of new media has produced a variety of online social connection structures across time and space, and changed the strange adaptation situation of foreign students in China. In order to observe the new appearance and changes of cross-cultural adaptation in the new media environment, this thesis introduces the online social support theory,in order to make a new exploration on the cross-cultural adaptation of foreign students in China under the new media framework and interdisciplinary perspective.Firstly, the thesis combs out the applicability of online social support theory in cross-cultural adaptation through literature.Through in-depth interviews with foreign students in China, the interview text is processed by computer-aided text analysis tools such as Gephi.According to the research results, three time stages of cross-cultural adaptation in this study are determined:the "sightseeing period" of being excited about the novelty of China before coming to China, the "cultural shock period" of feeling the difficulty of adaptation within one year after coming to China, and the "re adaptation period" of gradually adapting to the new environment after one year in China. The study found that in terms of support content, new media mainly presented information support in the "sightseeing period",emotional support in the"cultural shock period"and social support in the "readjustment period".At the same time, the thesis combs and compares the specific indicators of different social support in different stages:support demand, support media, support source and support intensity. This thesis attempts to introduce and apply a new perspective of online social support for cross-cultural new media research, solve the new problem of how Internet new media play a specific role in cultural adaptation in the social environment, outline the new situation of cross-cultural adaptation in the new media environment, and discuss the new positioning of foreign students in the new media environment. The proposed online social support model and related observations have reference significance for the study of migrant groups, and will supplement and develop the traditional cross-cultural communication theory based on face-to-face paradigm in the new media environment. |
