This study aims to explore the mediating role of emotions between college students’ aesthetic competence and physical and mental health.Aesthetic competence is a special talent that people use to understand and grasp the world.Aesthetic competence includes the perception,feeling,appreciation of aesthetics,etc.Emotions are compounded mental organizations and psychological behaviors.The important role of physical and mental health in individual growth is mainly reflected in physical condition,psychological state and social adaptation,not only in the absence of disease.Aesthetic competence is related to emotions,and emotions have a certain impact on physical and mental health.In this study,a total of 385 first-year students from the two universities were surveyed using the aesthetic energy strength scale,the positive negative emotion scale,and the positive affect and negative affect scale,and the SPSS20.0 and AMOS17.0 statistical software were used for data statistics and analysis,and the mediating role of college students’ emotions in aesthetic competence and physical and mental health was explored.The conclusions of this study are as follows:Frist,In terms of the physical and mental health of freshmen,the overall physical and mental health level of freshmen is good,the gender main effect is significant in the dimension of aesthetic competence music and literature,and the gender main effect is not significant in the total score of aesthetic competence,painting and film;in terms of emotions,the total emotional score,negative emotions,gender main effect is significant,in positive emotions,the gender main effect is not significant;in the total score of physical and mental health,and its sub-dimensions psychological emotions,social adaptation,and physical conditions,gender main effect is not significant.Second,aesthetic competence and its various dimensions are positively correlated;emotions are positively correlated with positive emotions and negative emotions,and the two dimensions of emotions are not correlated;physical and mental health and its dimensions are positively correlated.In the relationship between aesthetic competence and emotion,aesthetic competence is positively correlated with positive emotions,music and painting are positively correlated with positive emotions,literature,film and positive emotions are not correlated;aesthetic competence and its various dimensions are not related to negative emotions.Emotions are positively correlated with music,not with aesthetic abilities or other dimensions.In the relationship between emotions and physical and mental health,between emotions and their various dimensions and physical and mental health and their various dimensions,except for physical conditions and positive emotions,the others are significantly related.Aesthetic competence and its dimensions are not correlated with physical and mental health and its dimensions.Third,the mediating effect test shows that positive emotions play a complete mediating role between aesthetic competence and physical and mental health;the mediating role of negative emotions is not significant,aesthetic competence cannot predict negative emotions,and negative emotions can negatively predict physical and mental health.This helps to understand the mechanism of action of aesthetic competence on physical and mental health,and provides suggestions for the development of physical and mental health of future college students.
