Analysis Of The US Policy On Promoting Ukraine To Join NATO (1992-2020

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations with Ukraine in 1992,the United States has been pushing Ukraine to join NATO.This article focuses on the analysis of the goal of the US policy towards Ukraine’s joining NATO and the means of implementation.The first chapter explains the goal and means of the US policy towards Ukraine,laying a foundation for clarifying the reasons for the US to promote Ukraine to join NATO.The second chapter summarizes the history of the United States promoting Ukraine to join NATO and the measures taken by Ukraine to join NATO.The history of the United States promoting Ukraine to join NATO is divided into four stages: 1992 to 2004 is the stage of positive contact at the beginning of the establishment of diplomatic relations;The years from 2004 to 2010 were part of Ukraine’s color revolution;2010-2014 was a turning point in history;The Russia-Ukraine conflict lasted from 2014 to 2020.Ukraine’s own history of NATO membership is divided into three phases: positive convergence from 1992 to 2010;Opposition to joining NATO from 2010 to 2014;Between 2014 and 2020,they are eager to join NATO.Chapter three analyzes the policy of the United States to promote Ukraine to join NATO,focusing on its goals and means.The U.S.aims to contain Russia,strengthen NATO’s internal cohesion and preserve the U.S.strategy of trans-Atlantic integration.To achieve the goal,NATO has worked with Ukraine to improve its military capabilities,fight corruption and modernize its defense.The fourth chapter analyzes the obstacles facing Ukraine to join NATO and the ways of the United States to deal with them.The conclusion explores the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO in the future.This article argues that the issue of the US push for Ukraine to join NATO is ultimately an issue of US-Russian relations.With the conflict unclear,NATO membership is unlikely for Ukraine for a long time to come.
