The phenomenon of population aging has escalated into a formidable social challenge that the world is grappling with. The consequential pension problems are intricately tied to the rapid, sustained growth of the national economy and society, and are also linked to individual interests of every citizen. In China, changes in elderly consumption patterns and the growth of diverse models of elderly care have led to the emergence of a combined travel and old-age care model. The advent of this model holds profound significance and practical applicability in addressing China’s aging problem. This research adopts a questionnaire survey based on the present state of the elderly population in Guilin as its focal point. The study employs a logistic regression model to investigate the relationship between the inclination to reside in retirement and various individual characteristics, economic status, health status, and travel preference. Our analysis aims to identify the key influential factors and subsequently propose viable strategies for the development of the live-in retirement industry. This paper utilizes bibliometric analysis to investigate the hot topics and research frontiers in the arena of retirement residence research.Additionally,a literature analysis is conducted to classify papers related to retirement residence and retirement residence intention. This analysis assists in the identification of the key factors that may potentially influence retirement residence intention for effective questionnaire design.A total of 383 valid questionnaires were distributed to the elderly population in Guilin, and the data were processed using SPSS 27.0.1 software.Firstly, descriptive analysis was conducted on the information of individual characteristics, economic status, health status and travel decision information of the elderly in Guilin, secondly, variance analysis was conducted on these four parts of information, and finally, the factors with strong correlation from the variance analysis were taken as independent variables, and whether they were willing to choose to live in retirement as dependent variables, and a logistic regression model was established to carry out the factors influencing the willingness to live in retirement The analysis was conducted. The results of the experimental study showed that:(1)among 383 questionnaires collected through the questionnaire survey,55.1% of the elderly in Guilin were willing to choose to live in their old age,and 44.9% were not willing to choose to live in their old age, which reflected that the overall willingness of the elderly in Guilin to choose to live in their old age was high;(2)individual characteristics had an influence on the willingness of the elderly to live in their old age,and in the part of individual characteristics, age had a positive influence on the willingness of the elderly to live in their old age.(3)Economic status has an impact on the elderly’s intention to live for the elderly, including monthly income and annual travel consumption, which have a positive impact on the intention to live for the elderly.(4)Health condition has an influence on the willingness of elderly people to live in their old age, among which physical condition and self-care factors have a positive influence on the willingness of elderly people to live in their old age;(5)Travel decision has an influence on the willingness of elderly people to live in their old age, among which, the supportive attitude of children, special recreational activities,no death, medical facilities, quality of old age service, safety factor and natural scenery have a positive influence on the willingness of elderly people to live in their old age,and the length of each trip has a negative influence on the willingness of elderly people to live in their old age.The length of each trip has a negative influence on the willingness to live in the elderly. Finally, based on the results of the statistical analysis and the mature experience at home and abroad,we propose countermeasures and suggestions for the development of the current travel and retirement industry from the perspective of individual characteristics, economic status, health status, travel decision and government support,in order to promote the optimization and upgrading of China’s retirement protection system.
