Research On The Expression Of Domestic Cyber-Nationalism Discourse During The Tokyo Olympic Games

Every athlete in international sports events represents not only himself,but also the nation and country to which he belongs.Once the unfair,incorrect and unknown factors with bias are mixed into the events,it is often easy to ignite and intensify the nationalist discourse conflicts between the athletes of the two sides of the competition,between the two peoples and between the two countries.The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games,which was postponed for one year to overcome the impact of COVID-19,was originally a world-class sports event expected by the world.However,in some events,the Japanese side over-exploited its advantages as the host country,causing the games to be full of disputes,and Chinese athletes were repeatedly victimized.Also due to the historical issues and grievances between China and Japan that have not been fully settled,and the inability of Japanese right-wing forces to put China’s revival in perspective,the Chinese Internet users during the games were full of nationalist sentiment against Japanese athletes and Japan as a country.To this end,this research selects the most official representative and authoritative wechat official account of Renmin,the main outlet of nationalist discourse of Huanqiu wechat official account,and the hot topics related to the Tokyo Olympic Games on social network platforms such as Weibo and Zhihu,where netizens gather,as research materials.In this article,through case analysis and content analysis,trying to find out the domestic network nationalism discourse during the Olympic Games theme types and expression,and further explore the positive and negative influence network nationalism.The research shows that the domestic network nationalist discourse during the competition mainly contains two classes.The first is that Chinese athletes win the gold medal by their strength,which generates the emotional resonance of celebration,national pride and national pride,which is manifested as the active network nationalist discourse showing the superiority.The other is the anger and dissatisfaction caused by the loss of the champion due to unfair treatment,and the feeling that the rights and interests of the nation have been infringed,which arouses the long-buried nationalist trend of thought,which is manifested in the passive and exclusive network nationalist discourse.No matter which kind of discourse is expressed,rationality and extreme are intermingled.Therefore,the study points out that for China,which is moving towards the center of the international stage,it is necessary to guide the discourse of extreme nationalism,and avoid its remarks deepening foreign prejudices and affecting China’s international image.we should also give full play to rational nationalist discourse as the auxiliary role of the official media in the process of external dissemination,promote foreign understanding of China,and safeguard the legitimate and reasonable rights and interests of the country from infringement,to assist the mainstream media to build a good image of the country’s international public opinion environment.
