| Since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,General Secretary Xi Jinping has prioritized the development of talent as a crucial component of the strategy for building a strong military in the new era.This strategy integrates talent development with political,institutional,scientific,and legal development,and has been personally planned,deployed,and promoted by General Secretary Xi.Historic achievements have been made in talent development for the military.Under the goal of building a strong military,increasing numbers of college students are enrolling in military,leading to the emergence of a new group of retired military personnel –student veterans.However,there is a lack of research focusing on the academic adaptation of this community upon their return to campus.Therefore,it is important to conduct research on the current situation of academic adaptation for student veterans.In this study,a scale on the academic adaptation status and influencing factors of college students who have retired from military service and returned to campus is compiled by drawing on domestic and foreign theoretical achievements,particularly the socialized adaptation theory,IEO theoretical model,and preliminary interviews.Through factor analysis,reliability and validity testing,the academic adaptation of student veterans can be reflected in three dimensions: academic ability,academic environment,and academic status.The academic adaptation of student veterans is influenced by four factors: academic habits,academic engagement,interpersonal communication,and stress coping styles.Based on this scale,empirical analysis was conducted on the academic adaptation status of student veterans in Jiangxi Province.From the survey results and empirical analysis,the following conclusions are drawn: Firstly,the degree of academic engagement plays a key role in the academic adaptation of student veterans.Secondly,the impact of interpersonal communication on academic adaptation is higher than that of academic habits.Thirdly,the family democratic parenting style is more beneficial to the academic adaptation of student veterans.Fourthly,the lack of multi-subject attention of student veterans may cause academic adaptation problems.According to the cause analysis of the problem,four suggestions are proposed to improve the situation for student veterans: Firstly,student veterans should clarify their academic tasks and rationally allocate their academic engagement.Secondly,colleges should pay more attention to offering effective guidance and building multi-channel mentoring and mutual assistance groups.Thirdly,a family-college linkage mechanism should be established to stimulate the upward spiritual strength of student veterans.Fourthly,scientific assistance policies should be formulated,and the role of different social entities should be correctly played. |
