With the transformation of the main contradiction of Chinese society into the contradiction between people’s growing need for a better life and unbalanced and inadequate development, improving the quality of life will become an important task in the field of people’s livelihood, while the middle-aged and elderly,as a socially disadvantaged group and a group with high health risks, are about to enter or have entered the ageing stage. How to improve the well-being and quality of life of the middle-aged and elderly is a topic of concern to the whole society and the academic community, and is the top priority of the work on ageing in the new era.Quality of life is closely related to people’s physical and mental health, and the pursuit of quality of life is the new goal of social development. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the demographic development characteristics of the middle-aged and elderly groups, measure the overall quality of life score and explore the influencing factors.Based on a systematic review of research on quality of life, the thesis measures the overall quality of life score through the hotspot of "sense of access",combined with the sense of happiness and security, and combines objective group and micro individual data with macro yearbook data and micro survey data. With the help of Citespace,SPSS,Stata,Arc GIS and other software, factor analysis,cross-sectional regression analysis,Shapley decomposition, panel quantile regression and other analysis methods are used to evaluate the quality of life of the middle-aged and elderly groups in China in multiple dimensions and attributes, and to analyse the factors affecting the quality of life in depth. The main findings of this paper are as follows: the evaluation scores of the middle and old age groups’ sense of access, happiness and security are all at the middle to upper level;the scores of the old age groups are higher than those of the middle age groups in all dimensions, but they are still far from high scores;based on the three phases of the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS 2016,2018 and 2020databases)Only less than 40% of the middle-aged and elderly respondents improved their overall quality of life scores. The contribution of each factor to the overall quality of life score varied across years, but the most influential factors were health status and social factors, and in general, improving income levels and maintaining a healthy physical and mental condition improved the quality of life of the middle-aged and elderly.Combining the data from the three periods shows that when older people, party members, good income status,a higher proportion of the urban population, having a spouse, being insured, and having better health, can contribute to the improvement of the overall quality of life score;when the number of family members, illness, and depression score are higher,it will inhibit the improvement of the overall quality of life score. The innovation of this paper is mainly reflected in the following two aspects:firstly,it focuses on new trends in the research field with the help of bibliometric analysis, and the research done in this paper has enriched the perspective of quality of life research to a certain extent;secondly,it analyses the evolution of the temporal and spatial dimensions of quality of life by combining micro data from large sample research and macro yearbook data, and conducts influence analysis by cross-sectional data, tracking data and panel data Factor analysis. The shortcomings of this paper are mainly reflected in the following two aspects: firstly, there are many factors affecting quality of life and not all aspects have been measured, while the cumulative effect of multiple unfavourable factors has not been studied enough;secondly, due to the confidentiality of the survey data, the public data are only available at the provincial level and cannot be analysed at the city and county level.
