Abstract/Summary:
By June 2021,the number of Internet users in China had reached 1.01 billion,of which 28.0%were over the age of 50.The Internet has further penetrated into the middle-aged and elderly population, but there are still many obstacles in the use of the Internet. For example, the physical and psychological conditions of the middle-aged and elderly population have a certain impact on their Internet use,And Internet use also has an impact on the life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly people. Therefore, the scientific measurement of the Internet use level of the middle-aged and elderly and the analysis of influencing factors are conducive to a clear understanding of the current Internet use level of the middle-aged and elderly in China, promote the social integration of the middle-aged and elderly, improve the life satisfaction of the middle-aged and elderly, and promote the construction of an elderly friendly society.Based on the 2017 Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS),this paper selects a sample of middle-aged and elderly people aged 45 and over.Firstly, descriptive statistical analysis is made on five aspects of the sample: individual characteristics, family characteristics,Internet use environment, use behavior and its impact on itself;Secondly, from the subjective and objective aspects, select the relevant indicators of the Internet use environment, use behavior and impact on themselves of the middle-aged and elderly, build a comprehensive evaluation index system of the Internet use level of the middle-aged and elderly, and use spatial correlation analysis to compare the spatial differences of the Internet use level of the middle-aged and elderly in China’s provinces(cities and districts)in 2017;Thirdly,five indicators of Internet use level score,Internet development index, regional GDP,consumption level and per capita disposable income of middle-aged and elderly people in China’s provinces(cities and districts)in 2017 are selected for inter regional cluster analysis, and China’s provinces(cities and districts)are divided into several categories,It also comprehensively investigates the similarities and differences of influencing factors of Internet use level of middle-aged and elderly people in various regions from two aspects of individual characteristics and family characteristics; Finally, taking the life satisfaction of the middle-aged and elderly as the explanatory variable and the level of Internet use and other individual and family characteristics as the explanatory variable,an ordered probit model is constructed to explore the impact of the level of Internet use of the middle-aged and elderly on their life satisfaction. This paper draws the following three conclusions:First, the Internet use level of middle-aged and elderly people in China is generally low,the correlation between regions is not significant, and the Internet behavior is relatively single. The average online time of middle-aged and elderly people is 12.9 hours per week.Internet use behavior mainly focuses on social activities, access to information and leisure and entertainment, and Internet use has a certain adverse impact on the body of middle-aged and elderly people.Second, cluster analysis divides China into three types of regions.Class I regions include Beijing and Shanghai, and their economic development level and Internet development level are ahead of the country;Class II areas are mainly in eastern provinces such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with relatively mature Internet related technology industries and broad development space in the future;Class III areas are other provinces, which are relatively underdeveloped in terms of economic level and Internet development level. The influencing factors of Internet use level of middle-aged and elderly people in the three types of areas have both commonness and individuality.Among them, the education level has a significant impact on the Internet use level of the middle-aged and elderly in the three types of areas, and the higher the education level, the greater the possibility of higher Internet use level.Age has a significant impact on the Internet use level of middle-aged and elderly people in areas I and II.The older the age is,the less likely the Internet use level is to be higher.Third, the life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly people in China is relatively high as a whole. The level of Internet use, age, marital status, education level and income level of middle-aged and elderly people have a significant impact on their life satisfaction. The possibility of dissatisfaction with the use of the Internet increases with the age and the level of life of the elderly, and the possibility of dissatisfaction with the use of the Internet decreases. Finally, according to the research results,in order to improve the Internet coverage in the middle-aged and elderly population and the Internet use level of the middle-aged and elderly, comprehensively put forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions from the government, society, families, individuals and other aspects,so as to promote the middle-aged and elderly people to further integrate into the network society and improve the living standards of the middle-aged and elderly people,so as to effectively improve the happiness and sense of acquisition of the middle-aged and elderly people.
