Oriental Journal And The Early Dissemination Of Leninism In China(1917-1927)

Before and after the October Revolution,Chinese intellectuals paid great attention and thought to Leninism.Since Leninism came into being,it has influenced the choice of modern Chinese intellectuals on the road of national salvation.It is the key to deepen the founding and ideological history of the Communist Party of China to clarify the concern and thinking of Leninism of modern intellectuals.In the public opinion space of modern intelligentsia,periodical magazine,as the main carrier of information dissemination,plays an irreplaceable role in the process of Leninism dissemination.Among them,Oriental Journal with its unique representativeness as a typical journal to study the spread of Leninism among Chinese intellectuals.It not only made outstanding contributions to knowledge imparting and public opinion guidance in modern China,but also provided channels and platforms for modern intellectuals to contact and spread Leninism,which fully reflected the different intellectuals’ attention and thinking of Leninism.Therefore,it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of how The Chinese intelligentsia paid attention to,thought about and accepted Leninism,and to clarify the early spread of Leninism in China.The first part mainly investigates the historical background of intellectuals’ concern about Leninism before and after the October Revolution.It is mainly divided into two parts: international background and domestic background.International background includes the outbreak of World War I,Czar Russia was Mired in the war,domestic economic problems serious;The February revolution overthrew the rule of the Czar and established a provisional bourgeois government.The October Revolution broke out and overthrew the February government.The Soviet government adopted a series of policies and Leninism began to make remarkable achievements.The domestic background includes: the Opium War triggered a serious national crisis and social crisis,Chinese intellectuals began to look for a way to save the nation and survive;The Westernization Movement studied "utensils",but failed in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895.The Reform movement of 1898 tried to correct national problems with "system",but failed under the joint suppression of feudal forces in China.All kinds of national salvation movements of Chinese intellectuals ended in failure,but they still struggled to find a way out in the depressing background of The Times,and the Russian Revolution in this period attracted their attention.The second part mainly reviews the establishment of Oriental Magazine and its ideological evolution.Firstly,it discusses the function of time magazine in the trend of modern Chinese history.On the one hand,modern periodicals reflect the process of social transformation,on the other hand,they provide a perspective for observing the ideological state of modern intellectuals in the social transformation.Secondly,it analyzes the founding and characteristics of Oriental Magazine.From two aspects of author group and column setting,this paper tries to understand the focus of Oriental Magazine and its intellectual group on social change.Finally,the Oriental Magazine during the October Revolution is discussed.Facing the ever-changing social situation,Oriental Magazine is changing with The Times.First,the magazine itself changes.Adjust the layout and column Settings to increase the content of The Times.Second,the reform of the appointment of chief editors.Du Yaquan and other "cultural conservatives" stepped down and hu Yuzhi and other new intellectuals took over.Third,the reform of magazine thought.The October Revolution and other social ideas began to be widely propagated.The third part mainly analyzes the contents of Oriental Magazine’s concern about the October Revolution.Respectively from the Russian revolution,Lenin himself,the October revolution after the Russian situation in three aspects.On the one hand,the attention to the Russian Revolution is from the historical evolution of the Russian revolution,on the other hand,the October Revolution report.In terms of Lenin himself,this paper analyzes the change of Chinese intellectuals’ impression of Lenin,Lenin’s life experience and his ideal,and Leninism policy.The attention to the social situation of Russia after the October Revolution is mainly discussed from five angles: education,food issues,land policy,social change and foreign policy towards China.Finally,the results of the concern and thinking of Leninism by Oriental Magazine and its intellectual group are drawn.The fourth part mainly analyzes the contribution of Oriental Magazine to the early spread of Leninism in China.By sorting out the gains and losses of Oriental Magazine and its intellectuals in the process of paying attention to and thinking about Leninism,and scientifically summing up its experience and lessons,we rationally look at the shortcomings of Oriental Magazine in paying attention to Leninism,providing valuable experience and theoretical support for the current Sinicization of Marxism-Leninism.
