Since the public service motivation theory was introduced into China at the beginning of this century, domestic scholars have conducted extensive research on Public Service Motivation(PSM).Including antecedent variables, outcome variables, mediator variables and moderator variables. In numerous studies of outcome variables, studies related to job satisfaction account for a large proportion. However, there is high heterogeneity in the research results on the relationship between PSM and job satisfaction.Such as action direction, relationship strength, significance level, etc.Few studies currently explain this.In order to explain this difference, this paper uses a meta-analysis to identify some of the reasons for the heterogeneity of previous research results, and integrates a motivation-satisfaction theoretical framework.Based on the related research on public service motivation and job satisfaction, this thesis obtained 55 independent studies and 168 effect sizes through literature screening, with a total sample size of 67,691.First,this paper discusses the impact of public service motivation as a whole and its dimensions on job satisfaction, and identifies the reasons for the heterogeneity of research findings in this area.Coding discrepancies were resolved with another researcher, and the data were coded twice before and after.Second, this thesis discusses the impact of measurement tools, regional sources, gender, sample size, and types of research methods on the relationship between public service motivation and job satisfaction. From the overall perspective of public service motivation, public service motivation positively affects job satisfaction(r=0.427,N=67971).From the perspective of various dimensions of public service motivation,The dimension of participation in public policy formulation(r=0.364,N=9903).The dimension of commitment to public interest(r=0.400,N=10536)),the dimension of compassion(r=0.336,N=10745),the dimension of self-sacrifice(r=0.469,N=10858)positively affects job satisfaction.Moderating variables Public service motivation measurement tools, job satisfaction measurement tools regional sources, gender, and sample size can all play a positive moderating role in the relationship between public service motivation and job satisfaction, but the type of research method has no significant moderating effect on the relationship between the two. This thesis has theoretical contribution and practical significance.First, this study conducts a quantitative literature analysis of public service motivation in the field of public administration, integrates the framework of motivation-satisfaction.In terms of research methods, the effect size of the relationship between public service motivation and job satisfaction was calibrated and reached general conclusions about public service motivationjob satisfaction.Second,we examine the moderating effects of measurement tools, regional sources, gender, sample size, and types of research methods on the relationship between public service motivation and job satisfaction, and explain some of the reasons for the discrepancies in the findings of the existing studies.Third, this research also has certain management practical significance.Public service motivation is an effective driver of individual satisfaction and emphasizes the importance of providing individuals with opportunities to serve the public. From the perspective of personnel incentives in the public sector,it points out a direction for improving the job satisfaction of existing staff.
