| At present,China’s domestic regions have different degrees of market segmentation due to market trade frictions and policy barriers.Under the background of the domestic big cycle,it is particularly important to break the market segmentation between regions.This paper starts with the impact of regional linkages formed by the exchange of government officials in different places on the spatial distribution of enterprise supply chain,and then studies the role of regional linkages in breaking the market segmentation between regions.Specifically,this paper uses the data of the top five suppliers/customers disclosed by A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2017 in CSMAR database,as well as the data collected by hand on the exchange of municipal party secretaries at various levels in different places,to build a nationwide 19219 "company-year-city pairs" data set,taking the exchange of municipal party secretaries in different places as a quasi-natural experiment,and using multi-period double difference model,It is concluded that the regional association formed by the communication between officials in different places will increase the number of customers in the place where the last official was located,and improve the sales performance of the enterprise.The mechanism analysis shows that the influence of regional linkages on the cross-regional distribution of the supply chain of enterprises is determined by the promotion incentives of officials and the demands of enterprises to reduce the cost of information collection and institutional trade costs.The common demands of the two parties contribute to the formation of the interest alliance between the government and enterprises.In addition,the analysis of the heterogeneity of the influence of regional linkages on the cross-regional distribution of enterprise supply chain shows that the impact of officials’ communication in different places on the distribution of enterprise supply chain varies with the regional political and business environment and economic conditions.Regional linkages have a significant impact on the distribution of enterprise customers in regions with good political and business environment and developed economic conditions.At the same time,regional linkages can effectively alleviate cultural barriers,Promote the establishment of supplier-customer contacts in regions with large cultural differences;Industry heterogeneity shows that regional correlation has a significant positive impact on the number of enterprises’ non-local customers in medium and high technology industries.Under the background of different degree of market segmentation between regions in China,the findings of this paper help to clarify the role of the non-institutional factor of regional association brought about by individual officials’ exchange in different places in the integration of the market,and enlighten us that under the current system,promoting the exchange of officials in different places may be a feasible measure to break the market segmentation and promote the integration of domestic market;On the other hand,the findings of this paper inspire us to establish a "pro" and "clean" relationship between government and enterprises to ensure the stability of the interests alliance between government and enterprises,so as to not only meet the demands of officials’ promotion but also meet the needs of enterprises to reduce trade costs. |
