| According to the final statistical monitoring report of the Programme for the Development of Chinese Women(2011-2020),the goals of the Programme for women in the past ten years in the fields of health,education,economy,decision-making and management, social security, environment and law have been achieved as scheduled. The results show that women’s social status has been significantly improved, historic new achievements have been made in promoting gender equality and women’s all-round development, and women’s sense of gain, happiness and security has been significantly enhanced. However, the problem of unbalanced and insufficient development of women is still prominent, and compared with urban areas, rural women’s participation in the management of social affairs still needs to be further strengthened. With the progress and development of media, new media represented by short videos has entered the vision of communication studies as an “empowerment” for marginalized groups and vulnerable groups, and rural society has gradually entered the field of media.Rural women’s changes in the new media environment have increasingly become the focus of academic research due to their dual vulnerability in the position of region and gender.Based on relevant researches on media empowerment, this paper conducts fieldwork in Bajiao Dong Township,Enshi,Hubei Province, distributes 300 questionnaires, and selects 10 rural women for in-depth interview to explore the media empowerment of rural women by short videos. This paper is divided into six parts. In the introduction, the research background, significance and methods of this paper are explained, and the researches on “women’s empowerment”,“media empowerment and short video empowerment” and “rural women’s use of short video” involved in this paper are reviewed. The first chapter introduces the basic information of the survey site and the respondents, analyzes the information, expression and action of the short video used by the respondents, sorts out the contents of the in-depth interview, and makes a comprehensive analysis of the questionnaire and the in-depth interview. On the basis of the previous chapter, the second chapter further analyzes the motivation in the process of empowering rural women through short video from the aspects of external drive and internal drive. The third chapter expounds the value of empowering rural women with short video and analyzes the difficulties and causes of the use of short video by rural women. The fourth chapter,on the basis of the previous analysis, puts forward corresponding suggestions from three aspects: individual, platform and society.Under the dual effects of short video empowerment and self-empowerment,rural women themselves and all sectors of society need to work together to promote the development of rural women. In conclusion,it makes an overall summary of this study, analyzes the empowering effect of rural women in the use of short videos and the shortcomings of this study.Empowering rural women with short videos is an important part of promoting rural women’s development. This paper analyzes the current situation of rural women’s empowerment and the reasons, and puts forward corresponding suggestions.Although the 300 respondents in this survey can not represent the whole rural women group,it is still hoped that rural women can gain positive energy through short video empowerment.Empowering rural women with short videos is an important part of promoting the development of rural women, and the use of short videos has produced empowering effects in three aspects: information, expression, and emotion. However, due to the influence of different growth experiences of rural women such as their age, education level and occupation, the empowerment effect of rural women is also different.Individuals, platforms and societies play a vital role in the empowerment of rural women through short videos. Therefore, the author puts forward corresponding improvement strategies according to the existing problems of empowerment. |
