| Based on trade data published by the General Administration of Customs released at the beginning of 2022,in 2021,the nation’s total exports for the entire year will be3.36 trillion US dollars,an increase of 29.8% from year to year,and the total export value will reach a new high.The export trade has contributed greatly to the development of our country’s economy since the reform and opening-up in 1978.But the pace of the world’s economy has been slowing,and there has been a growing degree of trade friction.The impact of the epidemic will continue to exist in the short term.In the postepidemic era,how to make one of the troika exports fly again is the top priority of economic development.Cities as centers of economic and cultural exchange are important channels for opening up to the external world and hubs for economic and trade cooperation.At the same time,cities as sub-national actors are performing a progressively significant role in the diplomatic arena.In addition to formal agreements and institutional arrangements,the establishment of international friendship city relations is also an important complement to strengthening economic,political,social and cultural exchanges between Chinese and international cities.In order to truly test the economic promotion effect of international friendship city relationships,however,quantitative analysis and demonstration are needed.Only qualitative analysis and elaboration can not truly justify the role of sister city relationship in facilitating the city’s export trade.Therefore,it is essential to utilize the relevant data of international friendship cities and export trade data,combined with mathematical models for analysis,in order to better evaluate the role of international friendship city relations in facilitating economic development,and to further encourage exchanges and cooperation between cities.Theoretical and practical basis.The actors in concluding international sister city relations are Chinese cities and foreign cities,and the export behavior between the two cities is generated by the export of products produced by enterprises within the city.Therefore,in order to clarify the influence mechanism of international sister city relations on China’s export trade,this paper focuses on micro-enterprises based on the existing relevant literature.This provides a theoretical basis for the further study of the impact of international sister city relations on China’s urban export trade.Through analysis of influence mechanisms,the conclusion that the relationship between sister cities affects the cost of exported products of enterprises is drawn.which can be specifically divided into the transaction cost of the products and the two ways of prompting the production efficiency of the enterprises to reduce the production costs of the products,which have an impact on the export of enterprises,thereby affecting the export trade of cities.In terms of empirical research,this paper finally extracts the "city-Country" pair of export data.Using the method of multi-period DID,we empirically studied whether the conclusion of international friendship city relationship affects the export trade between cities.The study found:Firstly,the regression results of the dual fixed effect model demonstrate that the establishment of foreign friendship city relationship will vastly increase the city’s export trade volume,and the establishment of international friendship city relationship will raise the export volume of Chinese cities by 9.7%.Secondly,the establishment of international friendship city relationships can promote the export trade of Chinese cities,which reached the test of endogenous and robustness.Passed the parallel trend test,indicating that the regression results are robust.At the same time,in order to prevent the endogenous problems generated by possible sample selection bias.Heckman’s twostep method was adopted,and the result was markedly positive.The regression results of this article can be shown to be robust,which provides further evidence for the basic finding that the establishment of international friendship city relations can promote the export of my country’s urban commerce.Thirdly,the results of heterogeneity analysis show that the establishment of international friendship city relationships has a more obvious effect on promoting the export of geographically adjacent countries.It shows that the differences in geographical location,economic development,political system and historical culture of various countries make the cheats for establishing a good relationship between international friendship cities cannot be the same.By analyzing the dynamic effects of international friendly cities,it can be concluded that an increase in the number of contracts signed between cities and countries will further promote exports between friendly cities,but this promoting effect cannot be infinitely superimposed.Based on the above test results and through the analysis of the characteristic facts of my country’s international friendship city relationship and export trade,this paper puts forward the following suggestions: Firstly,optimize the management mechanism of international friendship cities to promote the high-quality development of international friendship city relations;Secondly,the relationship between cities has established cultural interaction and economic and trade networks,so that it can fully become a booster for the development of China’s foreign export trade. |
