Mao Zedong’s thought has changed many times in the 56 years from his birth to becoming a Marxist and then to leading the Chinese people to establish a new China. The ideological transition has made Mao Zedong gradually become a firm Marxist. After establishing the belief in historical materialism,Mao Zedong insisted on applying and developing the essence of historical materialism in practice, focused on the development of the mass historical view, which is the theoretical pillar of historical materialism, and formed Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses with both the connotation of the basic theoretical principles of Marxism and its own theoretical characteristics and Chinese characteristics.Combating and studying Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses before the founding of New China will help us understand the philosophical process of a revolutionary moving towards Marxism from the bottom of his heart, and then understand and develop Marxism, help us to clarify the formation and development of important components of Mao Zedong Thought, and help us more deeply realize the important role and significance of Mao Zedong and Mao Zedong Thought in the development of the Marxist theoretical system. Before the founding of New China,Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses mainly experienced two stages: formation and establishment and theoretical maturity. In the formation and establishment stage, with Mao Zedong leaving his hometown to study in Hunan as the node, the development of Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses was divided into two periods: initial germination and basic establishment. In the process of ideological shaping, agitation, deep research, transition and establishment,Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses was stabilized from the perspective of philosophical belief. In the mature stage of theory,Mao Zedong insisted on guiding practice with the concept of mass history, implemented and developed the concept of mass history in practice, and realized the construction of the concept of mass history with its own ideological characteristics from three aspects: the main body, the core content, and the goal of value.Mao Zedong’s concept of mass history moved towards the mature stage of theoretical development. Before the founding of New China, the development of Mao Zedong’s view of mass history had three basic characteristics: first,it was crucial in the formation of Mao Zedong Thought;second,it was practical in the development of its own theory;third,it was progressive and tortuous in the overall development process. One of the reasons why Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses enriched and developed the basic principles of Marxism is that it has brought positive significance to the world.Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses has not only created a Chinese miracle in the history of socialist development, but also inspired the people of Asia,Africa and Latin America to open up a new path of national liberation and helped to promote the climax of the people’s democratic movement in capitalist countries, which has had a broad and far-reaching impact on the world. As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era,Mao Zedong’s concept of mass history has a stronger practical value.Studying and studying Mao Zedong’s historical viewpoints of the masses will help us deeply understand the scientific connotation of "people first",help us shape the lofty ideals and beliefs of Communists in the new era, help us understand the new political form of people’s democracy in the whole process, and will provide strong ideological support for our country to achieve the second century goal.
