The CPC Central Committee and The State Council attach great importance to the problem of farmers’ entrepreneurship and have promulgated a series of supportive policies in order to encourage farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making.Farmers’ entrepreneurship is a new endogenous path to promote rural industry revitalization and the development of economy and society. However, current responsiveness of farmers’ entrepreneurship remains low,and how to stimulate farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making has become the focus of extensive academic research.Existing studies have confirmed that social capital has a positive impact on farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making,but most scholars mainly investigate from the perspective of family social capital or urban social capital, and few studies have explored how village social capital affects farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making.Therefore,based on the social capital theory, institutional theory and resource bricolage theory, this paper uses the “first-hand” micro data of farmer entrepreneurship survey, conduct an empirical analysis using a binary Logit model and an ordinary linear regression model to investigate the impact of village social capital on farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making.The influence mechanism of village social capital on farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making is investigated, and the intermediary mechanism and boundary conditions are explored. Our research found that village social capital has a significant positive impact on farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making.Specifically,the sub-dimensions of village social network, village social participation and village social trust all have significant positive effects on farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making,among which village social trust is the most prominent. The two subdivision dimensions of rural development, rural economy and rural harmony all play a partial mediating effect between village social capital and farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making.In addition, property rights protection significantly positively moderates the impact of village social capital on rural development, and significantly positively moderates the impact of village social network, village social participation and village social trust on rural economy, but has no significant moderating effect on rural harmony.Property rights protection further moderates the mediating effect of rural development, that is,the stronger the property rights protection is,the stronger the influence of village social capital on farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making through rural development. In this study, village social capital is conceptualized and academic, providing a new perspective for the research on the factors affecting farmers’ entrepreneurial decision-making.It reveals the moderating effect of property rights protection on the relationship between village social capital and rural development, which is helpful to improve the theoretical analysis framework of the existing research. This study has important implications: Firstly, pay attention to the cultivation of multi-dimensional village social capital.By expanding the social relationship network, improving the level of social participation and enhancing the level of social trust of farmers’ villages, the social capital of farmers’ villages can be continuously accumulated to promote entrepreneurial decision-making.Secondly,vigorously promote the dual development of rural economy and rural harmony.By promoting the integrated development of rural industry, improve the development level of rural economy.By constructing multiple benign interaction system of villages, promote the process of rural harmony, and provide suitable entrepreneurial fields for farmers. Finally, continuously enhance the protection of rural property rights.By strengthening farmers’ awareness of property rights protection and improving the rural property rights protection system, create an effective market environment for farmers’ entrepreneurship. |
