China in its present form is undergoing changes unprecedented in a century,and there is a greater need to live together in peace,cooperate and win-win with all peoples of the world,and for cultural intermingling,and with this comes a change in diplomatic attitudes and outreach methods.As China’s international status continues to rise,it is also important to show the world China’s strength and enhance its international influence.At the same time,visual culture communication based on self-media is increasingly becoming the mainstream of communication,with video,audio and pictures attracting more attention than text.In this context,Chinese city outreach films have become one of the most important means of outreach.The image of a city is a microcosm of the country’s image,and the difference between cities attracts Chinese culture lovers to come and visit.By improving the international communication capacity of Chinese city outreach films and presenting concrete and vivid cities to international audiences,it is conducive to enhancing China’s overall national image,spreading Chinese distinctive culture and showing the world China’s unique charm and development potential.This study takes narrative theory and international communication theory as a starting point,and after sorting out the development status of Chinese city outreach films,uses Dream Beijing,Shenzhen-The Migrant Experiment,This Moment,In Shanghai,Hangzhou-Beyond Poetic Scenery and The Best of Nanjing" as typical cases,we analyse the international communication strategies of Chinese city outreach films in three aspects: theme construction strategy,audio-visual language expression strategy and cross-cultural narrative strategy through case study and textual analysis.The study also proposes strategic suggestions for the international dissemination of Chinese city videos in terms of content,channels and audiences.This study broadens the horizon for the related research field by outlining feasible strategies for the practice of city outreach films in terms of theme selection,content screening and narrative techniques.The study is divided into six sections.The introductory section introduces the research background,research significance,research methodology and innovation points of this paper,and searches and composes the relevant literature to review the relevant theories and existing research results.The first chapter identifies the concepts and theories involved in the study.In Chapters 2 to 4,the author analyses the international communication strategies of the five foreign propaganda films,combining the relevant theories of narratology and international communication,and analyses the cases in terms of themes,symbols,images,sounds and cross-cultural narratives.In the concluding section,the author summarises and integrates the above research contents,and draws on other outstanding city outreach films to propose international communication strategies for Chinese city outreach films in terms of content,channels and audiences,in order to provide reference for the creation and communication of Chinese city outreach films in the future.
