Entrepreneurship has long been seen as an important factor of production. The high-quality development of my country’s economy requires innovation, innovation and entrepreneurship are closely linked.Under the great changes, entrepreneurship will become a breakthrough for innovation-driven development. The research on entrepreneurship is not only necessary for macroeconomic development, but also has the value of enhancing competitiveness at the micro and medium levels;it is not only a realistic choice based on the background of the new era of China, but also a theoretical supplement focusing on the framework of economic growth. This paper focuses on regional entrepreneurship, and mainly completes the following research contents: clarifying the connotation of regional entrepreneurship and establishing an index system;focusing on the mechanism of regional entrepreneurship and China’s urban economic growth, and the empirical analysis is based on the data of 280 municipal units in China from 2006 to 2018.The main research results of this paper are as follows: First,Clarify the connotation of regional entrepreneurship. The connotation of regional entrepreneurship takes innovation, entrepreneurship, and cooperation as the core elements,The connotation of regional entrepreneurship includes innovation, entrepreneurship and cooperation, using three methods of C-D production function,three-dimensional coordinates and the validity of the index system to test the rationality and perfection of dividing entrepreneurship into three elements.Second,Build a comprehensive index system of regional entrepreneurship. The three elements of the connotation of regional entrepreneurship are described by the two dimensions of motivation and ability, and a regional entrepreneurship index system including 3subsystems and 6 measurement indicators is formed.Among them, the innovation dimension includes per capita PEVC investment and patent applications;the entrepreneurship dimension includes urban private and individual employees, and industrial enterprise units;the cooperation dimension includes mergers and acquisitions events and joint patent applications. At the same time, this paper also uses two types of factor analysis methods to test the rationality and validity of the index system construction.Further, the regional entrepreneurship of 280 cities in China is measured by the entropy weight method. The results show that the spatial pattern of entrepreneurship in China is strong in the east and weak in the west, and has a multi-polar distribution pattern, with the Matthew effect that is stronger in the east, showing the rise of the central part and the weakness of the northeast.Thirdly,Expound the mechanism of regional entrepreneurship’s influence on urban economic growth.Based on Professor Zhang Weiying’s Smith-Schumpeter theory,it is pointed out that regional entrepreneurship mainly promotes economic growth through enterprise agglomeration, independent innovation, and knowledge spillover effects.Fourth,The empirical results of data from 280 municipal units in China from 2006 to 2018 show that regional entrepreneurship can promote urban economic growth. This conclusion is still valid after considering the robustness test of endogeneity and substitution variables. In addition, this paper verifies the rationality of the influence mechanism by testing the mediation effect and the threshold effect. On the whole, entrepreneurship can play a more significant role in cities with a low level of knowledge stock,a time period with a low level of economic development, and a city with a low level of economic development. When there is no advantage in geography and resources, entrepreneurship can promote economic growth to a greater extent by discovering opportunities and weakening external constraints such as resources.
