| With the continuous deepening of globalization,China’s foreign trade is also facing the impact and challenges caused by the complex international political environment.Among them, whether ’diplomatic visits’ can help promote trade growth has become one of the important topics in the field of research. In view of this, this paper collects and sorts out the diplomatic visits and foreign trade data between China and 192 countries from 2014 to 2019.On the basis of distinguishing the direction of diplomatic visits(visits, interviews)and the level(national leadership, senior leadership, foreign minister),this paper makes a more detailed and in-depth re-discussion on the relationship between diplomatic visits and China’s foreign trade.Specifically, this study adds the ’diplomatic visit’ factor to the gravity model, and finds that diplomatic visits have a significant role in promoting China’s foreign trade, and this effect is particularly obvious in China’s imports.Further, this study further distinguishes the direction and level of diplomatic visits, and obtains a series of expanded analysis results:1).In the direction of visits,China’s interviews mainly promote import trade, visits play a more significant role in export trade, and the impact of mutual visits on bilateral total trade is more obvious than that of one-way visits.2).From the perspective of visit level,higher-level diplomatic visits have a stronger impact on international trade. Finally, based on the above findings, this paper puts forward targeted policy suggestions from the aspects of strengthening diplomatic construction, improving and perfecting diplomatic system,in-depth understanding, research and making full use of diplomatic visits in all directions and levels, and accelerating the transformation and application of diplomatic achievements. |
