Academic Adherence In Rough Life:Yang Kun And The Study Of Chinese Ethnology In The 20th Century

Yang Kun is one of the influential scholars in the study of modern Chinese ethnology.He is also a participant and witness in the development process of Chinese ethnology.He has made many contributions to the establishment and development of Chinese ethnology,especially to enrich the academic views and theoretical methods of Marxist ethnology.In addition,his academic achievements still have important reference value and theoretical significance for today’s construction of the "three systems" of Ethnology with Chinese characteristics.This paper studies the frustrating academic life and works of the late ethnologist Yang Kun.The author attempts to clarify his ethnological research achievements,learn and inherit Mr.Yang Kun’s academic views and theoretical methods by taking Mr.Yang Kun’s academic life as the core,taking the change of the times as the incision,taking the overall development of Ethnology as the dimension,taking the development level of Marxist ethnology as the measurement standard,and combining with Mr.Yang Kun’s works,It is helpful to sort out the historical process of the construction of Chinese Ethnology theory and the construction of Chinese national pedigree.This paper discusses from five parts.First of all,an overview of Yang Kun’s academic life and his works,and an understanding of Yang Kun’s academic persistence in his rough life.The second part is about the stage of Chinese ethnology.During his study in Paris,Yang Kun first knew the greatness and grandeur of the field of ethnology research.Influenced by the theory of French ethnology,he strengthened his faith in ethnology research.After returning home,Yang Kun preached and taught in many universities,and studied the localization of Chinese Ethnology at the same time,trying to transform French ethnology into an ethnology suitable for Chinese soil.At this stage,Yang Kun was full of ambition and focused on the issues related to the localization of Chinese ethnology.At this time,the understanding of Chinese Ethnology and the grasp of national conditions were relatively weak.The third part is the preliminary exploration stage of Marxist ethnology.Yang Kun transferred to Yunnan University to teach and conducted theoretical research and field investigation of ethnology.Baptized by Marxist theory,Yang Kun participated in national identification and social and historical investigation,and made great contributions to understanding the development context and living conditions of ethnic minorities.At this stage,Yang Kun unswervingly embarked on the road of Marxism and began to study Marxist ethnology.The fourth part is the mature stage of Marxist ethnology theory.After the reform and opening up,Yang Kun returned to Beijing,compiled more than 50 years of academic achievements into a volume,and published a series of research works on Marxist ethnology.He explained Marxist ethnology,put forward that the research focus of Marxist ethnology is the development history and related theories of ethnology,and repeatedly stressed that field investigation is the top priority of ethnology,so as to have an in-depth understanding of the survival and living conditions of ethnic minorities.At this stage,Yang Kun mainly collated and summarized his research results in the past 50 years.His unique academic views have important reference significance for the construction of Marxist ethnology.The fifth part mainly summarizes Yang Kun’s academic characteristics and introduces the objective evaluation of contemporary and later scholars,in order to show Yang Kun’s contribution to the development history of Chinese Ethnology in the20 th century.As a typical study of Yang Kun’s works,he plays an important role in the field of Chinese ethnology.The works created by Yang Kun at that time closely linked with the pulse of the times,had distinctive characteristics of the times and formed unique academic characteristics.His views on Ethnology are still used for reference by many scholars today.
