Election reporting is an important field of political communication research and an important entry point for Taiwan media research. This study starts with the reports of Taiwan’s mainstream media on election activities, and attempts to compare and analyze how Taiwan’s mainstream media reported Taiwan’s "election" in the 2020 Taiwan regional leader election(hereinafter referred to as the Taiwan " General Election ");There have been long-standing ideological disputes.Whether the mainstream media in Taiwan has been affected by the party color and ideology in reporting on the "general election" and has political deviations, and what kind of power and ideological relationship is conveyed behind the news discourse.Based on this, this study chooses to use "United Daily News" and "Free Times" as cases, and through the macro-level agenda setting and micro-level discourse narrative,a specific comparison and analysis of the number of reports, topics, objects and reports of the two media The similarities and differences in tendencies.Regarding core events, especially on issues related to cross-strait relations, the two mainstream media’s discourses are presented in order to understand whether the two media have political deviations in their election reports. Is there a connection between this deviation and the party it prefers? What kind of relationship between power and ideology is reflected behind the discourse of news reports? In terms of research methods, this research uses content analysis and comparative analysis to analyze the text of news reports through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The study found that due to the special political environment that Taiwan media has been in for a long time,it has been affected by a strong party color at the beginning of its birth. Therefore, there are more obvious trends in its reports, especially in the reports of electoral politics.Deviations from the ruling party and reporting deviations due to different party positions in newspapers. The research hopes that by analyzing the news reports of the "United Daily News" and "Liberty Times" when reporting on Taiwan’s "general election",on the one hand,it will enhance the audience’s critical awareness and interpretation of news and other popular discourses, and on the other hand,it hopes that the audience will understand how the two media use them The seemingly objective discourse constructs specific power relations and spreads its ideology. This understanding helps us better understand the rules of political communication, and how the mainland’s official media can improve the ability to set agendas under such rules, and make more targeted rebuttals against words that smear the mainland’s image and cross-strait relations. To maintain a positive national image and promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
