The problem of domestic waste pollution is a pathological product brought by modern civilization. It haunts us like a nightmare, but it is always a shortcoming that is not taken seriously. When this pathological product is combined with the pains of the transition period that the vast rural areas of China are currently experiencing, the problem of rural domestic waste pollution is no longer a simple environmental or technical problem.Behind it lies the hollowness and decline of rural areas, the public disintegration of space, the breaking down of collective consciousness, and the failure of social norms. For farmers,a livable environment is the basis of their daily production and life, and the problem of domestic waste pollution in rural areas is closely related to the daily life of every farmer. This problem seems to be the choice of the farmers themselves, which has also caused the consequences of pollution. But what is hidden in the depth is that the structural changes in the way of life of the farmers under the dual influence of the "wave of modernization" and the "wave of urbanization" They have been pushed into a situation where they are unable to make a choice.Although domestic waste pollution is a public issue in the village,it also originates from the individual farmers. The village needs a public space for dialogue and norms of behavior to turn this problem into the responsibility of every farmer. While shouldering the dual identities of producers and victims of rural domestic waste pollution, farmers are also participants and direct beneficiaries of rural domestic waste pollution control.Such multiple identities determine the important position of farmers in governance.Through the study of individual cases,we can acknowledge the transformation and changes of rural society, deeply analyze the reasons why farmers’ behavior choices change in different historical situations, and explore ways to promote farmers’participation in governance. From the perspective of the logical structure of this thesis, first set up a logical framework for social capital to influence farmers’ participation in rural domestic waste management;then, select H Village in S County as a case, and through investigation and analysis,Systematically explain the differentiated participation behavior of farmers in different stages of the village’s domestic waste management, analyze the evolution of social capital such as rural relationship networks, social norms, and trust patterns, and the logic of its influence on farmers’ participation in governance. Finally, based on the actual situation, propose the promotion of rural domestic waste from the perspective of social capital path selection of farmers’ participation in governance.Based on the perspective of social capital, this thesis explores the interactive relationship between rural social capital and the main body of farmers in the field of rural domestic waste management, which will help to better explore the endogenous driving force that promotes farmers to participate in rural domestic waste management and construct a multiple co-governance pattern.
