| Studying India’s China policy must not neglect the basic context and direction of its domestic public opinion.The mainstream English media in India,whose authors are mostly retired officials,influential think tank scholars and journalists,are popular among middle and upper class and young students who have a good command of English.Its China-related reports have a great impact on Indian society’s perception of China,and can even further influence foreign policy making towards China.But what is worrying is that the specter of "China threat theory" has always been lingering in India,and there are lots of negative reports about China in mainstream English media in India.All along,in the dimension of Sino-Indian relations,we pay more attention to the voices of Indian leaders or high-level officials,but ignore the gusts that Indian mainstream English media has brought to Indian society.Therefore,this article selects this subject as the main research object.This article is divided into five chapters.The first part is an introduction,which mainly introduces the origin of this topic,the current research situation around this issue at home and abroad,and the basic ideas,innovations and research methods of this article.The second part is the theoretical framework,which aims to clarify the interaction between public opinion and foreign policy making.This chapter focuses on the definition of public opinion transmission,the interaction effect of public opinion and foreign policy making,and specific examples that public opinion works in bilateral relations.The third part mainly introduces the text analysis of public opinion on China in mainstream English media in India after the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.This part takes the form of topic classification,and divides China-related reports of mainstream English media in India since the 18 th National Congress of CPC into 3 topics,the "boundary issues","economic cooperation" and "Tibet issues",and then analyzes the texts of these news reports.The fourth part is mainly to analyze the causes of public opinion on China in Indian mainstream English media since the 18 th National Congress.The last part is to analyze the influence of public opinion on China in Indian mainstream English media since the 18 th National Congress.It divides the impact into three levels,the domestic level of India people,the level of India government and the level of global cooperation,striving to show the depth and scope of the influence of public opinion about China in a step-by-step manner.Since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the media of the mainstream English in India have shown a negative tone,which will subtly have a negative effect on the healthy development of Sino-Indian relations.In view of this,China needs to attach great importance to the public opinion work to India,grasp the mainstream direction of reports on India,and conduct China’s propaganda work to India through multiple channels and angles to prevent negative reports from impacting Sino-Indian bilateral relations. |
