The images of “Salome and the Death of John the Baptist” originate from the biblical text,and since their inception in the early Middle Ages,they have taken on complex and varied pictorial forms and symbolic meanings.This paper focuses on the shift in the iconography of Salome and the Death of John the Baptist from the 14 th to the 16 th centuries,with the aim of outlining the important turning points in the evolution of the image from an expression of religious doctrine in the Middle Ages to an expression of strong emotional awareness at the end of the 19 th century,and to explore the reasons and purposes behind the shift in artistic tendencies of the times.The purpose Firstly,from the perspective of historical development and evolution,this essay compares the thematic images of the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and the new types of images and cultural symbols that emerged from them.Finally,through the perspective of social and cultural aspects,the research method of iconography is applied to interpret the close relationship between the images of "Salome and the Death of John the Baptist" and its characters and the historical background and culture of the time,pointing out the shift in cultural concepts.Finally,through the lens of socio-cultural aspects,the research method of iconography is applied to interpret the close relationship between the images of Salome and the Death of John the Baptist and their characters,their historical background and the culture of the time.
