Sergei Vassilievitch Rachmaninoff(1873-1943)was a famous Russian piano player,composer and conductor in the twentieth century.The author developed a keen research interest in Rachmaninoff and his piano work Piano Sonata No.2 in b-flat minor during his graduate studies.From the relevant information collected so far,most of the studies are centered on the background of Rachmaninoff’s composition,the characteristics of the work’s composition,the analysis of the work’s form and the compositional techniques used,and relatively little on the performance interpretation of the piece.The author hopes to enhance his own infectiousness and expressiveness in performance through research and practice.
