| The original text of this translation practice report is from the new book Raising Critical Thinkers by Julie Bogart, who is an American expert on home education. This book explains the significance of education in the context of digital life and provides practical and innovative approaches to raising critical thinkers. This translation practice report is completed under the guidance of the Relevance Translation Theory, combined with the Comprehension,Expression and Adaption(CEA)writing framework. The theory posits that translation involves two communicative activities:first, the translator as a reader decodes the author’s intended meaning of the source text;second, the translator conveys information to the reader. The original book cites many examples that require background knowledge to support her opinion and make it more persuasive, which requires the translator to correctly understand the author’s intention in the first communication and reconstruct the context in the second communication, thereby making Chinese readers get equal inferential distance in translating and achieve the same reading experience as English readers. The problems in translation will be analyzed from three aspects, namely Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation,to restore the original style of the source text and author’s intention to the maximum, thus achieving the optimal relevance.Through this translation practice report, the author found that the Relevance Translation Theory and the CEA writing framework can guide the translation of cultural and educational texts in a synergistic manner. The author hopes that this translation practice can increase experience in the translation of cultural and educational texts and deepen the understanding of such texts;moreover,it can provide readers with valuable learning materials and reference for the translation of cultural and educational texts. |
