Realization Of Re-Narrative

News trans-editing is a popular sub-field in translation research for that a news text may alter after trans-editing if the institutions responsible for news production and trans-editing have distinct ideologies.This thesis employs narrative theories and combines it with Network Agenda Setting Model to examine the trans-editing of news articles on the theme of the "Russia-Ukraine conflict" in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the interrelationships among characters in the news and tap into the hidden logic of the stories.First,this thesis collects bilingual news data pertaining to the Russia-Ukraine conflict from the Xinhua News Agency multimedia database and the Factiva database before analyzing the trans-editing tactics employed and their effects using social narrative theories.Secondly,the NAS Model and discourse analysis method are used to explore the characteristics and interrelations of the issues involved in the original news and the trans-edited one.Lastly,with the aid of Greimas Semiotic Square and the Two-time Symbolizing theory,the stories in both texts are explored and perceptions of audiences generated within the interpretative framework formed are analyzed.This thesis reaches the following conclusions.In their news narrative,British and American media portray Russia and China as dictators who invades or will invade other countries,equate Taiwan region with the sovereign state of Ukraine,and describe the US as the defender of peace and freedom in the Asia-Pacific region rather than a country which should bear the historical responsibility for causing the Russia-Ukraine conflict.It is intended to persuade the audience that the US is defending the international order and observe the US’s double containment strategy against China and Russia.Reference News,on the other hand,employs translation strategies such as framing by labeling,repositioning of participants,and selective appropriation of textual material,to disregard or alter information that does not conform to the facts,thereby defending the veracity of the news,protecting China’s sovereignty,and adhering to the Marxist view on journalism.
