Since the 18 th Party Congress,China’s rapid economic and social development, the level of productivity has continued to improve, and people have put forward higher requirements for spiritual life while their material needs are met.At the same time,in the process of social development, spiritual production plays an increasingly important role as an important part of social production. Therefore,it is especially important to pay attention to the real situation of spiritual production in our society and use scientific theories for guidance.Marx and Engels’ theory of spiritual production, based on the materialistic view of history, scientifically reveals the law of development of social spiritual production and systematically studies the important role of spiritual production in promoting social progress, which has important guiding significance for developing spiritual production in China and promoting the construction of a strong socialist cultural state with Chinese characteristics. The formation of Marx Engels’ theory of spiritual production is based on the real social background and the needs of the revolution, critically inherited the ideas of classical German philosophy, classical British political economy and idealistic socialists on spiritual production, and gave a new interpretation of spiritual production, providing scientific theoretical guidance for the proletarian revolution, the development of social production and the cause of human liberation. The theory of spiritual production runs through the classic works of Marx and Engels, and is constantly improved as Marxist theory matures. Its development line is divided into the initial germination period(1843-1844),the period of scientific interpretation(1845-1848)and the period of deep expansion(1848-1890).Marx and Engels pointed out that spiritual production is an important part of social production, which is practical in nature and is the embodiment of the essential characteristics of human beings. The inner structure of spiritual production contains spiritual productive forces and spiritual production relations, which follow the universal laws of social production and have their own special laws.Spiritual production is centered on the production of ideas, concepts and consciousness, the subject of which is real people, and the object of which is nature, human society and human thinking. In social production, spiritual production is based on material production, and at the same time has relative independence to react on material production, reflecting the characteristics of subjectivity, creativity and class. The theory of spiritual production is an important theory that promotes the development of social production and provides theoretical guidance for the realization of the free and comprehensive development of human beings, and occupies an important historical position in the Marxist theoretical system. The Marxist-Engels theory of spiritual production is a scientific theoretical system, which still shows important theoretical and practical values in contemporary times. In the context of China’s social development, the theory of spiritual production provides theoretical guidance for Chinese-style modernization;in the context of world historical development, the theory of spiritual production forms the theoretical basis for criticizing capitalist society and realizing communist society. At the same time,it has important implications for the development of spiritual production in China.Socialist spiritual production with Chinese characteristics should adhere to the guiding position of Marxism, adhere to the people-centered development direction and enhance cultural self-confidence in order to cope with the negative factors in the field of spiritual production in China and continuously meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the people.
