Among many excellent western piano music works,no matter in terms of cultural value, aesthetic value or artistic means, the works of the Romantic period are undoubtedly a shining pearl, and in the works of this period, there are more striking piano works with "exotic" elements.Such works are characterized by highly regional, novel and distinct musical elements that evoke curiosity, imagination and fascination with far-off places. It is this wonderful quality that attracts the attention of many composers and audiences, and thus inspires artistic activities such as the creation, performance and criticism of piano music works. The derivation of "exotic" elements in European piano music does not start from the romantic period, but can be traced back to the Baroque period. The development origin of "exotic" elements in piano music is revealed by the Polonets created by Bach or the pursuit of ancient Oriental exotic emotions in Coupland’s works. There are also traces of "exotic" piano music from the classical period. Both Mozart and Beethoven were influenced by the popular "Turkish style" in Europe and created works with Turkish exotic flavor respectively. Therefore,it can be seen that western composers have long been looking for mysterious and strange "exotic" elements different from their own music in their creation.Aiming at this kind of artistic phenomenon, this paper selects the works of Brahms and Moshkowski for case analysis, combined with relevant historical background and music analysis, explores the "exotic" elements of German piano music in the Romantic period, aiming at exploring the correlation between this kind of special musical phenomenon and music history,as well as the mutual influence of music and cultural transmission. And it brings enlightenment to Chinese piano music creation.
