Entrepreneurial stories are material realities of retaining the imprint of the times and recording social changes.At a time when global population aging has become an irreversible trend,China’s population aged 65 and above had exceeded 200 million by the end of 2021,which accounts for 14.2% of the total population,marking a shift from a lightly aged society to a moderately aged society.The increasingly serious pension problem has put forward new requirements for the development of China’s social service system for the elderly,and nuring home are therefore strongly supported by the government.In this circumstance,a large number of entrepreneurs who are dedicated to services for the elderly have emerged,with their entrepreneurial stories attracting more and more attention.The documentary “Becoming a Nursing Home Director” taking a female entrepreneur,Wang Chuhan,who invested in the establishment of CCRC(Continue Care Retirement Community),as its subject,is shot on location in the Sunshine Health Care Center and its surrounding communities in Zhuzhou,Hunan Province.The main story of the documentary is about the opening plan of 100 elderly people moving in a nursing home during its trial operation.Through multi-scene filming and in-depth interviews with Wang Chuhan,staff,the elderly and their families,the film shows Wang Chuhan’s balance between social responsibility and economic benefit in her dual roles as a nursing home director and private enterprise founder.The film shows the image of a female entrepreneur of a nursing home in a prefecture-level city while focusing on the surroundings and states of the elderly living there.It also reflects current choices of the elderly and problems confronted by institutionalized nursing care for the elderly.By capturing details of Wang Chuhan’s work and life with people around her,this film portrays a clear-headed and decisive entrepreneur of a nursing home.In the process of creating the film “Becoming a Nursing Home Director”,I strengthened my theoretical knowledge and also gained a first-hand experience of selecting,shooting and editing a documentary.Against the changing situation of Covid-19,I overcame various practical and technical difficulties to enhance not only the interpersonal communication and scheduling skills necessary for documentary filmmakers,but also their professionalism in researching,planning,interviewing,shooting,editing as well as script writing.
