Based on a large number of linguistic facts, previous studies, and the "three planes" theory, this paper compares two pronoun conjunctions in modern Chinese,"Because" and "Due to," using quantitative and qualitative research methods. The entire document is divided into five chapters:The first chapter serves as an introduction. This chapter describes the paper’s background, research significance, research object, research status, research methods, and data sources. The second chapter examines syntactic features. This chapter first compares the distribution positions, average sentence length, information entropy, focus mark, pause, and interval of "Because" and "Due to." Second,it examines the differences between the cause and result sentences of "Because" and "Due to" in the tenses of already, not yet,and no.The dynamic and static distribution differences of "Because" and "Due to" are then investigated. Finally, the differences between "Because" and "Due to" in narrative subject consistency are investigated. The third chapter examines semantic relationships. The semantic relationship between "Because" and "Due to" is investigated in this chapter, and the semantic relationship is classified as a single semantic relationship and an applied semantic relationship. The single semantic relationship consists primarily of conventional and unconventional causal relationships, subjective and objective causal relationships, and applied semantic relationships primarily of the application relationship between "Because" and "Due to" and causal, coordinate, and turning class complex sentences.Furthermore, the two’s proclivity for collocation with positive, neutral, and negative semantic rhymes is investigated. The fourth chapter investigates pragmatic function. The differences between "Because" and "Due to" are examined in four areas: textual cohesion, interpersonal interaction, subjectivity and objectivity, and stylistic distribution."Because" can be followed by clauses, clauses, and paragraphs in cohesion, whereas "Due to" is usually followed by clauses. In the interpersonal interaction function,"Because" emerges as a discourse marker, whereas "Due to" lacks the distinguishing features of discourse markers."Because" is more subjective than "Due to" in subjective objectivity. In terms of genre distribution,"Due to" is more common in written genre, and the more written genre there is,the more common it is,whereas "Because" is more common in spoken genre, and the more colloquial genre there is,the more common it is.Furthermore, when used in a language special zone,"Because" has more distinct characteristics than "Due to."The fifth chapter is the epilogue. This chapter summarizes the entire text and highlights the article’s flaws. |
