| Ke Shaomin was born in 1850,He learned from his family and liked reading when he was young, and discussed with his teachers and friends when he was an adult. His academic purpose was generally established before 1900.The first edition of Chun Qiu Gu Liang Zhuan Zhu was produced in 1927,but his research on it could dates back to the 1890s at the latest. Therefore,it is rare to see the discussion of the dispute between modern and ancient literature in his book, but still focus on harmonizing the three commentaries.Growing up in the academic environment of the late Qing Dynasty, his cognition on Gu Liang Zhuan also came from this theory in the Qing Dynasty. In addition, during his stay in Beijing,he discussed knowledge with Zheng Gao,His book was quite similar to Zheng Gao’s Chun Qiu Shuo and The Retro Meaning of Chun Qiu,This characteristic confirms the influence of Qing Dynasty academic on him.In writing this book,Ke Shaomin intends to promote the main cause of Gu Liang Zhuan in order to correct the problems caused by the political and academic issues such as reform and the controversy between modern and ancient literature in the late Qing Dynasty. He hoped to reconstruct the expert theory of Gu Liang Zhuan, and then combine the theories of Gong Yang Zhuan and Zuo Zhuan,so as to invent the principle of Chun Qiu.However, different from Gongyang Zhuan and Zuo Zhuan, the study of Gu Liang Zhuan is still not obvious, and the spread of special theories is also very limited.Due to dissatisfaction with Fan Ning’s and Zhong Wenzheng’s interpretations of the Gu Liang Zhuan,Ke decided to reannotate it,although their interpretations were the most successful in the past.Start with criticizing Fanning’s and Zhong Wen’s commentaries on Gu Liang Zhuan,Ke handled the relationship between three generations with a parallel attitude, and collected ancient notes between the Han and Tang dynasties from the standpoint of "Han Dynasty scholarship",these made preparation for the construction of the special theory of Gu Liang Zhuan. In addition, textual examination was popular in the Qing Dynasty, and scholars’ textual research on classical texts exceeded that of the previous generations.Since Ke wanted to invent the meaning of Gu Liang Zhuan,it was also an indispensable work to "clear up doubts and delays" in the transmission of texts. However, the specialized theory of Gu Liang Zhuan is limited after all,and the textual and sentence research is difficult to direct the meaning. Therefore,Ke Shao inherited Fanning’s method of summing up classical examples, and drew on the words of Confucius in order to construct the unique "Nine Tenets" classical examples in Gu Liang Zhuan.By summing up the nine tenets of the text--season,month,date,King of heaven, son of heaven,King, satire, degrade and sever--he established a system of praising and denigrating good and evil for the whole society. In this way,he interpreted the meaning of Chun Qiu as concrete moral principles, which not only embodied his own imagination of the ideal society, but also intended to guide the concrete practice.Although he did not break away from the traditional monarchy,he emphasized the importance of "winning the people" and "winning the masses" while affirming the order, and stressed that "the people are the foundation of the king",which was influenced by the traditional Confucian concept and the zeitgeist. The reason why Ke Shaomin annotated Gu Liang Zhuan is not only for academic debate, but also for practical use.His expounding of Gu liang Zhuan had the meaning of aiming at Gong Yang school in the late Qing Dynasty. To understand Chun Qiu from Gu Liang Zhuan is also to focus on the role of Chun Qiu in "righting wrongs",and the interpretation of the great meaning of Chun Qiu is to guide practice. Therefore,in his commentaries can be found the comments on historical events, although the words are obscure, the meaning is clear. This interpretation of Chun Qiu is similar to the way that scholars in the Han Dynasty used it to judge the classics. From this point of view,Ke’s research on "Cereal Beam" was a further retro of the study of the Han people based on the research of the Qing Dynasty and its development into practical application.Similar to Ke’s pursuit, there were Yang Shuda’s and Shang Binghe’s scholarship. Therefore, with the changed of The Times, when the academic ideas were updated, the basis and significance of his theory were eliminated.Later scholars use this book by referring only to his explanation of the words and sentences. As a result,Ke Shaomin’s book no longer received attention. |
