A Study Of The Soundscape Of Urban Music In Wuhan From 1937-1938

Wuhan urban music developed in the midst of the flood of Wuhan’s urban modernization from 1937-1938,and the outbreak of the Total War of Resistance was a turning point in the development of Wuhan’s urban music culture.This paper examines the soundscape of urban music in Wuhan from 1937 to 1938,taking the background of the cultural environment and the overall social development of Wuhan in the 1930 s,and examining the transformations and processes involved,taking as a starting point the types of music,musical groups,places of activity,and content of activities.The main text consists of four chapters.The first chapter discusses the urban regional attributes and the development of music culture in the three towns of Wuhan in the 1930 s.The second and third chapters are divided into two parts,taking the outbreak of the July 7 Incident on July 7,1937 as the time point for the discussion.Chapter 2discusses the soundscape of music in Wuhan from January to July 1937 from the perspective of different regional spaces and different types of music in the three towns of Wuhan;Chapter 3 discusses the musical groups and musical activities in Wuhan from July 1937 to October 1938 before the outbreak of the war and the fall of Wuhan.Chapter4 summarizes and explains the characteristics of the soundscape of Wuhan city music from 1937 to 1938.This paper attempts to use the soundscape theory to comprehensively construct the flow of the development of Wuhan city music from 1937 to 1938 and the impact behind it on Wuhan city music culture.The temporal and spatial layout of Wuhan urban music is analyzed through the development and activities of different music genres in different cultural and entertainment spaces and geographical locations in Wuhan.On this basis,we examine the formation of urban music groups with specific purposes and special musical events that occurred in Wuhan under the war and cultural movements,and discuss the acceptance,adaptation and development of Wuhan’s urban music culture to foreign music culture in the context of specific times and special historical events,and then build a soundscape of Wuhan urban music from 1937-1938.
