Adaptation and development are the basic tasks of life. The growth of an individual is a process of constantly adapting to the society and developing oneself, and it is also the most important subject faced by young people. With the gradual physical and psychological maturity of adolescents, good self-control and social adaptability will help them better cope with opportunities and challenges.Family is the basic element of society, and the ideas, attitudes and behaviors shown by parents through parenting style affect adolescents’ self-control and social adaptation level.Parenting style is of great significance to the healthy development of adolescents.Current studies mostly study the relationship between adolescent family rearing, social adjustment and self-control.This study attempts to explore the intervention effect of self-control group guidance by examining the relationship among the three variables of family upbringing,self-control and social adjustment,so as to enrich the theory and practice of junior high school students’ parenting,self-control and social adjustment. In order to further improve junior high school students’ self-control and social adaptation level, more relevant theoretical basis and practical programs are provided. This study consists of two parts:In study 1,305 junior high school students in a school were investigated by using the parenting style questionnaire, the simplified Self-control Scale and the Social Adjustment Scale for children and adolescents.By analyzing relevant data, the current situation of junior high school students’ parenting,self-control and social adjustment was understood, and the relationship among the three and the mediating role of selfcontrol in predicting the relationship between parenting and social adjustment were discussed. In study 2,a self-control group counseling program was designed according to the theories related to self-control.According to the results of study 1,16 junior high school students with low self-control level were selected and randomly divided into experimental group and control group.Eight subjects in the experimental group were given group counseling of self-control for six consecutive times, each time for 90 minutes, while eight subjects in the control group were given no intervention. The intervention effect of group counseling of self-control was investigated through the comparative analysis of the pre-test,post-test and follow-up test data of the two groups. The main results of this study are as follows:(1)The parental rearing styles of junior high school students have a positive predictive effect on their social adaptation level in four dimensions: mother’s care, mother’s encouraging autonomy, father’s care, and father’s encouraging autonomy. The parental rearing styles of junior high school students have a positive predictive effect on their self-control in four dimensions: mother’s care, mother’s encouraging autonomy, father’s care, and father’s encouraging autonomy. The self-control of junior high school students has a positive predictive effect on their social adaptation level.(2)Self control plays a partial mediating role in the impact of four dimensions of parental rearing patterns of junior high school students: mother’s care, mother’s encouragement of autonomy, father’s care, and father’s encouragement of autonomy on social adaptation.(3)Self control group counseling can play an effective role in enhancing junior high school students’ self control and social adaptation.
