Throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties,studying was not only an important way to grow up,but also a good foundation for the economic prosperity of the family.The Ding family,a prominent family in Rizhao,Shandong province,moved to Rizhao from Haizhou at the end of the Ming Dynasty,and an important part of their efforts to maintain the family’s prosperity was to promote literacy and education and to cultivate talent.The Ding family made some remarkable achievements on the road to the imperial examinations.After the abolition of the imperial examination system at the end of the Qing Dynasty,the Ding family responded to the changes of the times and actively sought to transform and develop,taking the initiative to embrace a new style of education and cultivate skilled professionals,becoming a typical example of a successful shift from traditional imperial examinations to modern education,and the Ding family has flourished ever since.By exploring the family education of the Ding family in Rizhao,and summarising the historical achievements of the Ding family education and its transformation in the face of social change,we can draw valuable lessons from the modernisation process of traditional Chinese family education and apply them to today’s educational practice for better results.The research of this paper is divided into six parts.The first part is an introduction,which takes the modern transformation of the Ding family education in Rizhao as the starting point,specifically elaborates on the reason for the selection of the thesis and its significance,and composes and reviews the relevant research results on family education,the Ding family in Rizhao and the modern transformation of traditional education,and elaborates on the research methodology,innovations and shortcomings of the thesis,and finally defines the concept of the family and family education and the Ding family in Rizhao.The second part discusses the origins of the Ding family,the rise and glory of the Ding family in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,the silence of the Ding family in the Qian and Jia dynasties,the revival of the Ding family in the mid and late Qing dynasties,and the continuation of the Ding family in modern times.The third part explains the transformation of the Ding family education in Rizhao in the modern era,which was mainly influenced by the turbulent political situation,the economic base,the clash of cultural attitudes and the change of educational objectives.The fourth section discusses the morphological manifestations of the transformation of the Ding family education in Rizhao,including the unique family education tradition of the Ding family in Rizhao and the oscillations and changes in the Ding clan education during the transition period.The fifth part is a summary of the impact of the transformation of Ding clan education in Rizhao,including both the impact on the Ding clan itself and the impact on the local community.The sixth section uses the modern transformation of Ding clan education in Rizhao as an entry point to dig deeper into the dilemmas encountered in the modern transformation of traditional clan education,and also to analyse the contemporary value of the successful transformation experience of traditional clans. |
