In recent years,the study of linguistic landscape has been prosperous in China.With the further expansion of scholars’ theoretical and empirical research,linguistic landscape has gradually become a research hot-spot under the umbrella sociolinguistics,opening up new lens for the interpretation of the interaction between identity,ideology and society.At present,domestic research is limited,mainly including commercial blocks and ethnic minority inhabited areas,while others are overlooked.Therefore,in order to enrich the domestic research,this study takes the linguistic landscape of metro Line 1 as the research object to describe the characteristics of linguistic landscape in a panoramic manner and explain the construction process.This study is carried out based on the three-dimensional analytical model and adopts qualitative and quantitative research methods such as photographic documentation,description and semi-structured interview method.The research questions include the following three aspects:(1)What are the physical characteristics of the linguistic landscape of Line 1?(2)How is the linguistic landscape of Line 1 shaped?(3)What are readers’ attitudes towards linguistic landscape? Based on the previous research,the signs are divided into two categories: notice and advertising.The findings are as follows.Physical dimension: notice and advertising are endowed with distinctive features in terms of emplacement,code,lexical syntax choice,and key.Most of the notice are context-dependent,with high bilingual rate,high language accuracy and standardization,and most are presented in an imperative mood.Advertising are context-independent,mostly presented in Chinese,with more use of culture-loaded words and rhetoric devices,and can be divided into five categories according to the key.Political dimension: The standardization and bilingualism of the notice obviously follow the national and local policies,aiming to build a unified,standardized and international humanistic city image;The content and function of advertising are relatively simple,and the contents mainly include tourism,culture,values,finance,value shaping and cultural propaganda function is more obvious.Experiential dimension: Signs affect readers in terms of cognition,emotion and tendency.Cognitive level:readers can realize the unique role of metro advertising and agree to build the metro into a window of cultural publicity.Emotional level: readers accept and support the bilingualization of metro notice and think that the standardization and uniformity of translation need to be strengthened.Tendency level: readers’ overall attention to signs is low and pay more attention to the platform and the corridor signs;readers do not pay much attention on the language details.Based on the analysis of the above dimensions,it is found that there is an interactive relationship of the three dimensions,forming a dynamic system of decide-influence-feedback:political space decides physical space;physical space influences experiential space;experiential space gives feedback and evaluation to political space.Besides,the discourses constructed by the linguistic landscape of not only influence individuals to construct a matrix of social behaviour but also maintain spatial order.This study has academic and practical values.This study is a valuable application of the three-dimensional analytical model of linguistic landscape,providing a useful academic reference for scholars and inspiring the linguistic landscape planning of metropolitan metro.
