In the last forty years,Li Zehou, one of China’s most influential and highly regarded philosophers, has developed a philosophical system known as anthropological historical ontology.Li Zehou’s ontological system revolves around ’man’,and is characterised by its humanistic, historical and active approach to the world, and is characterised by a dynamic process of development. There is a growing body of work on Li’s philosophy and aesthetic theory, but his ontological system as a whole can still be explored as a research perspective. This requires the author to investigate the process of constructing an anthropological historical ontology as a whole.Firstly,in terms of the formulation of anthropological historical ontology,Li Zehou’s ontology differs from both Western existentialism and Chinese ontogenesis, but sees ontology as the final reality. This is rooted in his awareness of the human being as the problem,i.e.from the point of view of the “Man lives”,he seeks answers to the question of how,why and how well one lives. And he qualifies his ontological system with a historical perspective.Secondly,in terms of the cornerstones of anthropological historical ontology,Li Zehou,on the basis of his critique of Kant’s a priori philosophy, puts forward his “Three Sentences of Teaching”,transforming epistemological a priori reason into historical reason,i.e.history builds reason;treating the moral law of ethics as the coalescence of reason,i.e.experience becomes a priori;and grounding beauty in practice while the ontology is then due to accumulation,i.e.the psychological ontology. In this way,the three questions of man are answered in terms of truth, goodness and beauty. In terms of the development of anthropological historical ontology,Li Zehou’s ontological system begins with the construction of the tool ontology,i.e.the practical activity of using and making tools as the answer to the question of man’s being alive,i.e.man’s being human, and the ontological nature of degrees in this living practice. The construction of the psychological ontology,on the other hand, shows his shift towards a concern for the cultural and spiritual life of the human being, which is about the construction of the human psyche,i.e.the advancement from the existence of the human being in general to the life of individual existence. In the face of the ultimate question of how to live,Li Zehou’s construction of the ontology of emotion points to a real life in which emotion and reason are united, which gives a new meaning to the realm of the oneness of all things and the unity of heaven and man,and which,in terms of ontological destination,is the synergy between man and the universe. The construction of an anthropological historical ontology is thus complete and comprehensive. Finally,Li Zehou’s ontology combines Chinese philosophy,Western philosophy and Marxist philosophy into one,and his theory emphasises the realistic concern for settling human existence, living and life.
