The modern periodical,as a carrier of today’s visual communication, can be described as a medium that combines information, knowledge and cultural communication and, together with newspapers and books,is the most mainstream paper-based media communication system today. In the field of graphic design, periodicals,as a visual medium of modern cultural communication, have a close connection with our life fashion and production. In the era of big data, these traditional graphic styles have been augmented by technological means and utilised by designers for secondary creation, thus leading to the formation of many new graphic styles in recent years, and journals and magazines have become the carriers of this popular trend in graphic design. For journal layout design,a summary of graphic design styles and a comparison of the best-selling design journals in China and abroad can help designers to understand current trends and keep abreast of hot design topics. The object of this study involves the basic concepts of ’image’,’modern periodical’ and ’graphic style’,although ’layout design "This is because layout design has an established design syntax and semantics, and the emergence of style in different periods is always linked to its strong cultural drivers as a pillar, with the evolution of graphic images and visual forms differing in essence from the development of its genre or style movement. This paper will discuss contemporary trends in graphic design through multiple data sets, using modern periodicals as a vehicle, and then experiment with the combination of graphic style and layout design, initiating a multifaceted exploration of the definition of layout rules based on a combination of ideas and forms, adding new stylistic features to layout design,to examine the design framework and design concepts of contemporary graphic styles. The paper is intended to examine the design framework and design concepts of contemporary pictorial style.
