Research On The Graphic Design Of Chinese Periodicals(1915-1937)

This paper makes a study of the design of Chinese modern periodicals published from 1915 to 1937,including their historical background,causes and development influences,and the Chinese modern periodical design as a starting point to sort out the clues of the development of Chinese modern graphic design,to explore how the multiple factors around the periodical design development and progress.The periodical is characterized by periodicity and continuity,and is a more layered media than a book,as opposed to a structured analysis of the design of each part of the periodical,the issue to be discussed in this paper is how these factors affect the design of periodicals and what results and effects they have produced.These discussions will also lead directly to how design emerged in modern China,and how to balance the foreign design culture and other issues.Reading relevant research materials and existing ancient books and periodicals in libraries,and combining with other disciplines related to periodicals,such as journalism and communication,comparing the design elements in modern Chinese periodicals with early foreign design works,in addition,this paper studies and sorts out the designers of periodical cover design,mainly discusses the domestic influence factors,the external influence factors and the technical development reasons.Periodicals,as an imported product,have become the carrier of spreading advanced cultural ideas under the use of scholars.Although this carrier has continued the traditional elements of ancient Chinese books,it is also under the influence of foreign design styles,the emergence of new forms of artistic expression and design techniques,combined with the continuous advancement of science and technology,has become one of the most important media in modern China.Through the research,this paper thinks that the periodical design of modern China is unique and representative in the field of graphic design.It covers the design of cover,font,illustration,layout and binding in the early graphic design,and its continuity makes us to explore the law and method of modern graphic design in China.
