Li Yu,an important writer with a unique experience, was famous for his novels and legends during the Ming and Qing dynasties. After the fall of these dynasties,he moved to Hangzhou with his family to make a living and made remarkable achievements in the fields of novels and legends. As a medium of expressing writers’ feelings, literary works show readers the rich and complicated inner world of the creative subject. In his novels and operas,Li Yu consciously incorporated his personal experience into his writing to express his feelings that were difficult to express directly in real life. This approach helped him interpret and analyze these emotions, and it is of great significance for us to understand Li Yu’s complex personality, unique ideological tendency, and the changes in the living conditions and mentality of the literati during the period of the Ming and Qing dynasties. At present, research on Li Yu and his works has been fruitful both at home and abroad, mainly focusing on novel and drama creation theory, narrative theory, and the aesthetic thoughts of the novel Pleasant Diversions. However, from the perspective of literary psychology, the study of his novels and dramas has been relatively weak. Therefore, this thesis chooses Li Yu’s novels and opera works as the core research object and uses research methods such as comparative study, transdisciplinarity, and close reading of the text. The author carefully studies and fully analyzes the text of Li Yu’s novels and operas to examine the changes and prominent features of his creative mentality in the context of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This thesis also explores the early Qing literati at the bottom of the group of ideas and inner world from this perspective. This thesis consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, the author makes a detailed analysis of the factors that influenced Li Yu’s psychology in the creation of popular literature from three aspects:the social and political environment, the cultural environment, and the regional and family environment, and individual psychological motivation. The goal is to grasp the formation and uniqueness of Li Yu’s psychology of popular literature creation. The second chapter focuses on Li Yu’s creative attitude in his novels and operas. In chapter three, the author compares Li Yu’s writing on the same theme with the legendary writer Li Yu to examine their common mentality and Li Yu’s unique psychology. The chapter also explores the moral choices and emotional psychology of the low-class literati groups represented by Li Yu and Li Yu during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
